WASHINGTON — The Coast Guard has released a new strategy to enhance global safety, security, and stewardship of the maritime domain by combatting Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, Coast Guard Headquarters said in a Sept. 17 release.

Vietnam joins ASEAN effort to combat IUU fishing

Relations between the EU and some ASEAN member states have been tense in recent years because of the seafood trade, stemming from the European Commission’s (EC) sanctions related to the illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. As Chair of ASEAN 2020, Vietnam hopes to promote cooperation among ASEAN member states and address this issue to actively contribute towards better ASEAN-EU trade relations. Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has approved a plan to implement urgent solutions in response to the European Union’s (EU’s) warning about illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Many solutions have been devised according to the EU’s recommendations. They include aligning the legal framework with regional and international regulations, implementing effectively the amended legal regulations for IUU fishing, and implementing effectively the international regulations and management measures through strict punishment.
