VietNamNet Bridge – At the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS), one teacher guides up to 44 PhD students and one PhD is produced every 1.76 days.
MOET’s inspectors have found many problems in enrollment, training management and degree granting at VASS.
In 2015 and 2016, the academy produced 2,811 master’s degree graduates, but did not report this to MOET.
The academy was discovered as reporting the wrong number of permanent lecturers, which determines the number of students it is allowed to train. The number of associate professors in reality was 10 lower than reported. In January 2017, there were 21 professors, 174 associate professors and 258 PhDs.
