MEKONG DELTA – When Bùi Văn Muôn decided to grow tứ quý mango trees 16 years ago, he did not expect the fruit would become a key agricultural crop cultivated to adapt to climate change.

“Back then, when I asked neighbours to buy and plant tứ quý mango trees here, they showed little interest as the fruit tasted a bit sour and they thought it might not fetch good prices in the market,” the 50-year-old farmer in Bến Tre Province recalled. Lê Nguyện was also haunted by the fate of farmers in the southern province of Bình Thuận, a principal producer of dragon fruit in Việt Nam, as prices fell and they suffered huge losses in 2014 and 2015.

She thought about ways to redeem the situation and ensure it would not be repeated. She came up with the idea of establishing a co-operative to buy dragonfruit at a stable and reasonable price from local farmers, and to make wine with it as an added value product. – 6h sáng nay, bão số 12 đã đổ bộ vào đất liền tỉnh Khánh Hòa với sức gió mạnh nhất đạt cấp 12 (115-135 km/h), giật cấp 15. Nhiều nhà dân tốc mái, cây cối đổ rạp, biển hiệu, tấm tôn bay lả tả.

Bắt đầu từ khoảng 18h tối, TP Đà Nẵng có mưa xối xả. Nhiều tuyến đường trong TP bị ngập. Đặc biệt, mưa lớn kết hợp triều cường khiến nước sông Hàn đã dâng lên cao.

Tốc độ gia tăng dân số và sự phát triển kinh tế trên thế giới dẫn đến nhu cầu năng lượng ngày càng cao.

Năng lượng – Mối quan tâm lớn

Theo thống kê của Tập đoàn dầu khí Anh quốc (BP), nhu cầu năng lượng trên thế giới tăng đều khoảng 1% năm trong 3 năm 2014-2016. Với tốc độ tiêu thụ này, đến năm 2040, nhu cầu năng lượng thế giới sẽ tăng 38%. Theo dự báo của Cơ Quan quản lý thông tin năng lượng của Mỹ (EIA), nhu cầu năng lượng thế giới có thể tăng đến 48% đến năm 2040.

Nguồn năng lượng hiện nay có được từ hai nguồn: Không tái tạo (nguồn carbon hóa thạch ví dụ như dầu, khí, than đá, năng lượng nguyên tử) và năng lượng tái tạo (năng lượng mặt trời, gió, khí sinh học, địa nhiệt, thủy điện nhỏ…). Tuy vậy nguồn năng lượng từ carbon hóa thạch có hạn, chỉ đủ để cung cấp cho chúng ta trong vòng 51 năm với tốc độ tiêu thụ năng lượng như hiện nay.
