Hanoi (VNA) – President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) Nguyen Phuong Nga on April 16 presented the Friendship Order, a notable distinction of the Vietnamese State, to Executive Director of the War Legacies Project (WLP) Susan Marie Hammond.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nga said that this is one of the highest decorations that the Vietnamese state presents to individuals and organisations who have made significant contributions to the friendship between Vietnam and countries worldwide. (VNF) – Leaders of the Vietnam Union of the Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and Vietnam – U.S. Society (VUS) hosted a US Congressional Staff Delegation in Hanoi on April 16.

The delegation consists of 10 assistants to US senators and congressmen from the Democrat and Republican parties on a working visit to Vietnam from April 12 to 20.

Hàng không mẫu hạm USS Carl Vinson là chiến hạm đầu tiên của Mỹ tới Việt Nam kể từ khi chiến tranh kết thúc. Bộ Quốc phòng Mỹ cho biết có thể sẽ có một chiến hạm thứ hai tới Việt Nam trong năm nay.

FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii—As an organization based solidly on dry land, the U.S. Army’s increasing focus on the Pacific might seem puzzling to some.

But with China continuing to expand its military, building islands in the South China Sea, and spreading fear among neighbors, the Army wants to up its game in the region with more firepower and additional rotations of U.S. troops—not only to reassure key U.S. allies such as Japan, South Korea, and Thailand that the United States has their back, but also to prevent a potential war.

US denying visas to International Criminal Court staff

Washington (CNN) – Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the US will deny or revoke visas for International Criminal Court staff.

The move is meant to deter a potential investigation by the judicial body into alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by US troops in Afghanistan.

Pompeo, speaking from the State Department Friday, said the restrictions include “persons who take or have taken action to request or further such an investigation.” He said the policy had already taken effect, but declined to say who had been restricted or would face future restrictions. HÀ GIANG — Residents of Thanh Thuỷ Commune in Vị Xuyên District said they are still occasionally startled by an explosion somewhere in the mountains nearby, a cruel reminder of a bloody border war 40 years ago.

They first prayed that no one gets hurt by stepping on the unexploded ordnance (UXO) buried in the terrain throughout the north-eastern uplands, especially the northernmost province of Hà Giang, where the bloodiest battles were waged.

HANOI — President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un abruptly cut short their two-day summit Thursday, with talks collapsing amid slightly differing accounts of why both leaders walked away without an agreement or a clear plan on how to keep the dialogue alive.

The fundamental disagreements rested on the trade-offs between the United States providing relief from sanctions and North Korea’s steps to dismantle its nuclear weapons program.

Trước đó, vào nửa đêm (giờ Việt Nam), ông Donald Trump từ chiếc Air Force One đăng dòng tweet: “Trên đường tới Việt Nam cho cuộc gặp của tôi với Kim Jong Un. Hướng tới một thượng đỉnh rất kết quả”. Sân khấu sáng đèn rực chiếu lên hai ông này. Tuy nhiên, trong cánh gà còn những ai nữa?
