Since May 2018, imports of scrap plastic have banned at major ports in Vietnam until further notice. In July 2018, the Vietnamese government announced it will no longer issue new license for plastic waste import.

Vietnam was named among the five countries importing the largest amounts of plastic waste in 2018, raking third with 7.6% of total global imports, according to a joint research between Greenpeace East Asia and the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA). Các hạt siêu mịn (bụi siêu mịn) được coi là đặc biệt có hại cho sức khỏe, đồng thời cũng có tác động quan trọng đến khí hậu. Ở những khu vực đông dân cư, trước đây giao thông đường bộ được coi là nguồn gốc chính tạo ra các hạt nhỏ này.

China has vowed to stop importing solid waste by 2020, while Vietnam is still fumbling for solutions to control scrap imports.
Chinese agencies on March 28 announced the country’s plan to cut solid waste imports to zero percent by 2020 with an aim of encouraging plants to treat the high amount of domestic waste.

Nhựa được sử dụng rộng rãi để lưu trữ và đóng gói thực phẩm và đồ uống. Chúng thuận tiện, nhẹ, bền và tương đối rẻ. Tuy nhiên, có cả mối đe dọa về môi trường và sức khỏe từ việc sử dụng rộng rãi nhựa.

Rủi ro về sức khỏe: Việc sử dụng nhựa trong nấu ăn và lưu trữ thực phẩm có thể đem lại rủi ro cho sức khỏe, đặc biệt là khi một số hóa chất có khả năng làm rối loạn nội tiết tố từ một số loại chất dẻo bị thấm vào thực phẩm và đồ uống. Công nghiệp sản xuất nhựa và xử lý nhựa bằng thiêu đốt tạo ra ô nhiễm không khí và ô nhiễm nước, và làm cho công nhân tiếp xúc với hóa chất độc hại.

To combat the issue, people all over the world have come up with new, more sustainable materials to make straws from. SINGAPORE – Singapore has seized 12.9 tonnes of pangolin scales found in a shipping container destined for Vietnam, the biggest seizure of its kind globally in five years, authorities said on Thursday.

The Earth Day Compostable Campaign to minimize the use of plastic bags and replace them with compostable bags made from corn starch has been officially launched on the occasion of Earth Hour by An Phat Holdings. It is estimated that dozens of tons of plastic bags will be replaced thanks to the campaign. Supermarket, restaurant chains and residential areas in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are working with An Phat Holdings to minimize the use of plastic bags. In the first phase of the campaign, BigC, Aeon, Intimex, Ls Place, Unik Mart, Seika, Teekiu, V + Hoa Binh and Nam An all joined together. HÀ NỘI — More than VNĐ28.5 trillion (US$1.23 billion) has been earmarked for a project to protect, restore and sustainably develop forests in the Central Highlands until 2030.
