VE – Chỉ trong một thế hệ, Hàn Quốc từ một xã hội khát con trai trở thành một xã hội nơi các bé gái được chào đón tha thiết.
Văn hóa thích con trai đã ăn sâu, bám rễ quá lâu đời ở châu Á. Theo một vài tính toán, con số các trẻ gái không được chào đời vì phá thai chọn lọc, vì chết do bị bỏ rơi… đã vượt quá 100 triệu người trên ở châu lục này ngày nay. Sức ảnh hưởng của việc này về kinh tế và xã hội đối với một số quốc gia đang lớn đến mức khó mà đo đếm nổi.
Trong nhiều thập kỷ, Hàn Quốc là điển hình về xu hướng đáng buồn này. Năm 1990, khi các tiến bộ y học đã hỗ trợ việc chẩn đoán giới tính, tỷ lệ trẻ nam – nữ khi sinh ở nước này tăng vọt đến mức cao nhất thế giới, với 116,5 bé trai so với cứ 100 bé gái sinh ra.

During the recent revision of the Penal Code, National Assembly Deputies debated whether or not the amended provision should explicitly include marital rape. Criminalisation of all forms of violence against women, including marital rape, was one of the recommendations coming from the UN committee of experts on women’s rights. No matter who the perpetrator is or where the incident takes place, rape is rape.
In Viet Nam, there is a common belief that sexual violence does not occur within the family or in locations considered to be ‘secure’ and ‘peaceful’. There is a myth that ‘real rape’ involves strangers, force and/or physical injury. However, a recent review of 462 rape and sexual assault case files tells a very different story. Uncle Sam isn’t going to let schools place certain restrictions on how transgender students use a single-sex locker room.
A school district near Chicago, Palatine 211, provides numerous accommodations for transgender students. The district calls the students by requested names, honors selected gender (including allowing them to play on the sports teams of the gender they identify as belonging to), and permits them to use single-sex bathrooms, since stalls ensure privacy.
