Updated : 04/19/2017 19:01 GMT + 7
While a considerable number of Vietnamese travelers are planning their trips online, few local travel companies have tapped into this lucrative market, insiders said at a conference on Tuesday.
Websites or online services helping travelers to prepare for their trips via a mouse click is “a gold mine left unexploited” in Vietnam, experts have said at an event jointly held by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper and Google.
Trinh Quang Chung, industry manager of Google Asia Pacific, said Vietnam currently has 47.7 million Internet users, most of whom search travel information, destinations and other related services as part of their daily habit. Tiếp tục đọc “Online trip planning market remains untapped in Vietnam”

Củ Chi farms its way to post-war charms

Already famous for its incredible network of underground tunnels, Củ Chi is using its rustic ambience to attract more visitors keen to get away from urban bustle, Sơn Hà finds.
Arguably, no visitor to HCM City, or Việt Nam, even, will miss a trip to the Guerilla Warfare Tunnels.
They are a dark reminder of dark days, and a fantastic reminder of incredible bravery, ingenuity and indomitable spirit.
The underground network of tunnels that will never cease to amaze, with its sheer length and facilities like trenches, docks, dining spaces, bedrooms and warehouses, has come out of hiding to become a living museum of the Resistance.
The earliest tunnel appeared in 1948 in two communes of Tân Phú Trung and Phước Vĩnh An. At first, there were just short and simple complexes for hiding documents, weapons and some guerillas.
Later, more tunnels were dug and wound their way to neighbouring communes. Between 1961 and 1965, six communes in the north of Củ Chi had completed the “backbone” tunnel. Branch tunnels connected with the backbone to form a network that could be expanded, if needed. They were needed. The Củ Chi Tunnels expanded rapidly, especially in the beginning of 1966, as the fight against American intensified.

By 1967, the tunnel system had a total length of 250 kilometres, a man-made wonder.
The “iron land” of guerilla forces has now transformed itself, from an area most devastated by war in the southern region into a popular tourist destination and now, a “new rural area”.
The world’s top underground tourist attraction welcomed around 1.5 million visitors last year, 650,000 of them foreigners, says Colonel Trần Văn Tâm, director of Historic Relics & Củ Chi Tunnel Complex. Tiếp tục đọc “Củ Chi farms its way to post-war charms”
Ho Chi Minh City rebuilds tourism strategy to meet 7 million int’l arrivals target
Updated : 04/14/2017 16:51 GMT + 7
Ho Chi Minh City leaders met with local tourism companies on Thursday to discuss ways to meet a target of welcoming seven million international visitors this year.
The southern tourism hub received 5.2 million foreign holidaymakers in 2016 and experienced a 15 percent jump in tourist numbers during Q1 2017, though experts are still unsure the city will meet such a lofty goal.
In the Jan-Mar period, more than 1.5 million international visitors spent holidays in Ho Chi Minh City, but Bui Ta Hoang Vu, director of the municipal tourism department, said the quarterly growth must be more than 20 percent for the seven-million target to be met. Bustling scene at a market for street vendors in Saigon
A market for street vendors has been put into operation for over one year at Pham Van Hai Market in HCMC’s Tan Binh District.
Some 20 households have been approved by local authorities to run business at the market at night time, which helps reduce encroachment on public pavements by street vendors.
It is expected that more spaces will be set up at other districts in HCMC to help street vendors run business.

Vietnam still seeks Chinese tourists despite ongoing problems
VietNamNet Bridge – Though some Chinese travelers have caused problems, Vietnam has said that it will roll out the red carpet to travelers of all nationalities.

Chinese have flocked to Vietnam in recent days as they have been prohibited to travel to other countries.
Entering Vietnam with passports, staying in Vietnam and working without work permits, some Chinese are distorting Vietnam’s history and sovereignty.
The Voice of Vietnam (VOV) reported that Da Nang City authorities have seized thousands of posters from Jeep Tour, a tourism company in Ngu Hanh Son district. The posters introduced tours provided by Jeep Tour, in which the Vietnamese ‘East Sea’ was written as ‘China Beach’. Tiếp tục đọc “Vietnam still seeks Chinese tourists despite ongoing problems”
Booming resorts, littering, rip-offs among ‘negatives’ of Phu Quoc tourism
Updated : 04/03/2017 20:01 GMT + 7
Editor’s note: Quang Kiet, a frequent visitor to Phu Quoc, has found many ‘negatives,’ one of which is the mushrooming number of resorts on the ‘pearl island’ just off southern Vietnam.
I would visit Phu Quoc almost every year, thanks to the marvelous natural beauty there, particularly the beaches, and the great seafood and friendly, hospitable islanders.
But I have come back from my latest trip with mixed feelings – the joy of seeing the island’s constant development is accompanied by sadness and worry. Tiếp tục đọc “Booming resorts, littering, rip-offs among ‘negatives’ of Phu Quoc tourism”
