I am an attorney in the Washington DC area, with a Doctor of Law in the US, attended the master program at the National School of Administration of Việt Nam, and graduated from Sài Gòn University Law School. I aso studied philosophy at the School of Letters in Sài Gòn. . I have worked as an anti-trust attorney for Federal Trade Commission and a litigator for a fortune-100 telecom company in Washington DC. I have taught law courses for legal professionals in Việt Nam and still counsel VN government agencies on legal matters. I have founded and managed businesses for me and my family, both law and non-law. I have published many articles on national newspapers and radio stations in Việt Nam. In 1989 I was one of the founding members of US-VN Trade Council, working to re-establish US-VN relationship. Since the early 90's, I have established and managed VNFORUM and VNBIZ forum on VN-related matters; these forums are the subject of a PhD thesis by Dr. Caroline Valverde at UC-Berkeley and her book Transnationalizing Viet Nam. I translate poetry and my translation of "A Request at Đồng Lộc Cemetery" is now engraved on a stone memorial at Đồng Lộc National Shrine in VN. I study and teach the Bible and Buddhism. In 2009 I founded and still manage dotchuoinon.com on positive thinking and two other blogs on Buddhism. In 2015 a group of friends and I founded website CVD - Conversations on Vietnam Development (cvdvn.net). I study the art of leadership with many friends who are religious, business and government leaders from many countries. I have written these books, published by Phu Nu Publishing House in Hanoi: "Positive Thinking to Change Your Life", in Vietnamese (TƯ DUY TÍCH CỰC Thay Đổi Cuộc Sống) (Oct. 2011) "10 Core Values for Success" (10 Giá trị cốt lõi của thành công) (Dec. 2013) "Live a Life Worth Living" (Sống Một Cuộc Đời Đáng Sống) (Oct. 2023) I practice Jiu Jitsu and Tai Chi for health, and play guitar as a hobby, usually accompanying my wife Trần Lê Túy Phượng, aka singer Linh Phượng.

HANOI — The US and Vietnam signed a defense agreement Monday, a document which officials hope will grow the military relationship between the two nations and will eventually lead to co-production of military equipment.

SINGAPORE—The way China looks at the disputes roiling the South China Sea, its forbearance has gone on far too long.

Smaller countries that ring the sea, including Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia have tested Beijing’s patience by striking claims to multiple islets, building structures on them and prospecting for energy in the surrounding waters. Indeed, these actions preceded any by China. But leniency has limits.

Năm nay, nhân loại tiến bộ kỷ niệm Ngày Nhân quyền thế giới trong bối cảnh các cuộc biểu tình đòi quyền được đối xử công bằng, đòi công ăn việc làm, đòi các quyền cơ bản nhất của con người… đang xuất hiện ngày càng nhiều trên hầu khắp các châu lục. Đâu đó, trong nước, một số sự phản đối thiếu tính xây dựng cũng đã xuất hiện. Lợi dụng việc các cơ quan bảo vệ pháp luật ngăn chặn một số phần tử, lợi dụng các quyền con người, quyền công dân để xâm phạm lợi ích quốc gia, xâm phạm quyền con người của các công dân khác, một số cơ quan truyền thông ở nước ngoài và các phần tử chống đối trên mạng xã hội ở trong nước đã lên tiếng, vu cáo Nhà nước Việt Nam về cái mà họ gọi là “còn nhiều vi phạm nhân quyền quan trọng”. (ĐCSVN) – Đảng và Nhà nước ta, trước sau như một, đều nhất quán khẳng định sự quan tâm, chăm lo, bảo vệ quyền con người; luôn đề cao sự tôn vinh, tôn trọng quyền con người và thực hiện có hiệu quả quyền con người.

Quyền cơ bản của con người là quyền được sống trong hòa bình, độc lập, tự do, ấm no, hạnh phúc; quyền được tôn trọng nhân cách, lương tri và phẩm giá, được xã hội thừa nhận, tôn vinh và pháp luật bảo đảm về quyền sống của một CON NGƯỜI. Vì vậy, ngày 2/9/1945, trong bản Tuyên ngôn độc lập, Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh đã trịnh trọng tuyên bố trước toàn thể quốc dân, đồng bào và nhân dân thế giới: “Tất cả các dân tộc trên thế giới đều sinh ra bình đẳng, dân tộc nào cũng có quyền sống, quyền sung sướng và quyền tự do” (Hồ Chí Minh, Toàn tập, t.4. tr.1).
