Authorities in Dak Nong Province, located in Vietnam’s Central Highlands, have discovered a local facility soaking over ten metric tons of durians in chemicals.

Tran Mau Dung, chief inspector of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development confirmed on Thursday that a durian business in Phu Xuan Village, Dak Nia Commune, Gia Nghia Town, was caught violating regulations on food safety. Vietnamese police have launched legal proceedings against three more individuals involved in a high-profile mismanagement case with enormous financial losses at PetroVietnam Constrction (PVC), a subsidiary of the state-run oil and gas giant PetroVietnam.

The investigation police agency under the Ministry of Public Security on Friday initiated legal proceedings, without an arrest warrant, against PVC general manager Nguyen Anh Minh on charges of “embezzlement assets,” according to a source close to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper. TOKYO: Japan said on Tuesday (Sep 26) it killed 177 whales off its northeast coast in an annual hunt that sparks anger among animal rights activists and others.
