Vietnam is seeing soaring demand and skyrocketing prices for its rice after India – the world’s biggest rice supplier – imposed export curbs last month. Industry players say the spike in global rice prices is an opportunity for Vietnam to boost production and exports. Nhưng mấy tuần gần đây, uy tín của PAP rung chuyển bởi một loạt bê bối. Giữa tháng 7, Bộ trưởng Giao thông S. Cùng tháng 7, Chủ tịch Quốc hội Tan Chuan-Jin (Trần Xuyên Nhân), từng là ngôi sao của PAP, đệ đơn từ chức vì những lời lẽ “thô tục và phi nghị viện”. Ông đồng thời thừa nhận có những “khía cạnh còn khiếm khuyết” khiến gia đình bị tổn thương.

Ngồi vào bàn đàm phán với Mỹ về nâng cấp quan hệ, với việc nộp đơn xin gia nhập BRICS, tiếng nói của Việt Nam có trọng lượng hơn, Việt Nam có thể “mặc cả” nhiều hơn và đạt nhiều lợi ích hơn.

Mới đây, tại cuộc họp báo về Hội nghị thượng đỉnh Nhóm các nền kinh tế mới nổi BRICS sẽ diễn ra ngày 22-24/8/2023 tại Johannesburg, Nam Phi dưới sự chủ trì của nước này, Bộ trưởng Bộ Ngoại giao và Hợp tác Nam Phi Naledi Pandor tuyên bố, đơn xin gia nhập khối BRICS (bao gồm 5 nước Brazil, Nga, Ấn Độ, Trung Quốc, Nam Phi) chính thức được 23 quốc gia đệ trình và vấn đề mở rộng hiệp hội sẽ được thảo luận tại hội nghị cấp cao sắp tới của BRICS.

Trong danh sách 23 quốc gia mà bà Ngoại trưởng Nam Phi đề cập tới có Việt Nam. Thông tin này thật sự gây bất ngờ lớn đối với cả giới chuyên gia và cộng đồng mạng.

Campuchia: 38 năm Hun Sen

TTCT – Ngày 22-8, ông Hun Sen sẽ chuyển giao chức thủ tướng Campuchia cho con trai Hun Manet. Đến hôm đó, ông đã nắm quyền y được 14.099 ngày, tức 38,5 năm.

Trong thực tế, ông đã ở vị trí lãnh đạo hầu như cả đời, theo cách riêng của mình.

Cách đây 5 năm, hôm 26-7-2018, kênh France 24 nhận xét: “Với 33 năm cầm quyền, Thủ tướng Campuchia hiện giữ kỷ lục về tuổi thọ chính trị ở châu Á. Ông Hun Sen tự coi mình là tộc trưởng của một triều đại mà ông dự định sẽ thiết lập chắc chắn thêm một chút nữa nhờ cuộc bầu cử lập pháp sắp tới”.

5 năm sau, đúng ngày 26-7 năm nay, France 24 lại nhắc: “Thủ tướng Campuchia Hun Sen, một trong những nhà lãnh đạo tại vị lâu nhất thế giới, hôm thứ tư cho biết ông sẽ từ chức và trao quyền lực cho con trai cả sau gần 4 thập kỷ cai trị theo đường lối cứng rắn”.

Tất cả đã có thể bắt đầu từ thành tích lớn nhất – có lẽ là như thế – của ông: góp phần tái lập hòa bình Campuchia.
