Thinking about the future is vital but hard. Crises keep intruding, making it all but impossible to look beyond daily headlines to what lies over the horizon. In those circumstances, thinking “outside the box,” to use the cliché, too often loses out to keeping up with the inbox. That is why every four years the National Intelligence Council (NIC) undertakes a major assessment of the forces and choices shaping the world before us over the next two decades.

This version, the sixth in the series, is titled, “Global Trends: The Paradox of Progress,” and we are proud of it. It may look like a report, but it is really an invitation, an invitation to discuss, debate and inquire further about how the future could unfold. (TBKTSG) – Khu hợp tác kinh tế qua biên giới (gọi tắt là “khu hợp tác kinh tế”) là ý tưởng do Trung Quốc đề xuất và đang đàm phán với nhiều quốc gia, trong đó có Việt Nam.

Theo ý tưởng mà phía Trung Quốc đề xuất, khu hợp tác kinh tế này được xây dựng theo mô hình “hai nước một khu, tự do thương mại, vận hành khép kín”. Khu hợp tác kinh tế này có các phân khu chức năng như khu vực chế tạo, gia công; khu vực thông quan hàng hóa; khu vực kho bãi; các trung tâm thương mại, khu vui chơi giải trí. Chính phủ hai nước sẽ cùng phối hợp quản lý, khai thác, phân chia lợi nhuận, áp dụng các chính sách ưu đãi để thu hút doanh nghiệp. Two Vietnamese books to be translated into English

The Hanoitimes – Two Vietnamese books “Nhung nga tu va cot den”(Crossroads and Lampposts) written by Tran Dan and “Nhung dua tre chet gia” (The Young Die Old) by Nguyen Binh Phuong have been chosen to be translated into English version.

Published in Vietnam in 2011, the book “Crossroads and Lampposts” has been awarded with the Hanoi Literature Association prize. It is widely considered a classic of contemporary Vietnamese literature. This novel is one of several written by the author during the 1960s, none of which have been previously published. (TBKTSG Online) – Vải lãnh Mỹ A đã làm nên niềm tự hào của xứ lụa Tân Châu, An Giang từ những năm đầu của thế kỷ XX, nhưng hiện nay loại vải này đang đứng trước nguy cơ mai một vì thiếu nguyên liệu và nhân công.

Lãnh Mỹ A được dệt từ tơ tằm, nhuộm bằng mủ của trái mặc nưa với màu đen tuyền. Để nhiều người có cơ hội tận mục sở thị, từ ngày 7 đến 14-12, Bảo tàng Phụ nữ Nam bộ (quận 3, TPHCM) sẽ trưng bày những thước vải lãnh Mỹ A và các mẫu thiết kế từ loại vải này.

HONG KONG — At Monument Books, a bookstore in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the magazine racks are stacked with copies of The Economist and other titles from Britain, Australia, France and the United States.

But one top-selling magazine there was founded in Phnom Penh and takes its name — Mekong Review — from the mighty river that runs beside the city’s low-rise downtown.

Myanmar’s government has barred Ashin Wirathu, an ultranationalist Buddhist monk, from public preaching for the past year, saying his speeches helped fuel the violence against the country’s Rohingya ethnic group that the United Nations calls ethnic cleansing.

So he has turned to an even more powerful and ubiquitous platform to get his message out — Facebook.

Sabeco “ván bài lật ngửa”

(TBKTSG) – Đang có những ý kiến tranh luận trái chiều về giá khởi điểm đợt bán đấu giá công khai 53,59% cổ phần của Nhà nước tại Tổng công ty Rượu – Bia – Nước giải khát Sài Gòn (Sabeco – SAB) được công bố ngày 29-11-2017 ở mức 320.000 đồng/cổ phiếu. Hầu hết các tổ chức đầu tư đều cho rằng giá khởi điểm quá cao, xét trên các tiêu chí tài chính cơ bản, P/E của Sabeco tới 50 lần, gấp đôi của các doanh nghiệp cùng ngành trong khu vực và trên thế giới. Liệu Nhà nước có thoái vốn thành công lần này?
