Monsanto đang phải đối mặt với sự chống đối toàn cầu, nhưng Việt Nam lại chào đón những nhà sản xuất chất độc da cam và công nghệ đáng hoài nghi này.

Liên minh Năng lượng bền vững Việt Nam (VSEA) hoan nghênh tuyên bố gần đây của Thủ tướng Nguyễn Xuân Phúc về việc “giảm tối đa” nhiệt điện than và “phát triển năng lượng tái tạo”. Đồng thời chúng tôi kêu gọi chính phủ Việt Nam biến lời nói thành hành động bằng cách đẩy nhanh việc tạm ngừng các nhà máy nhiệt điện than mới ở đồng bằng sông Cửu Long (ĐBSCL) đến năm 2020.

 Ngày 28 tháng 9 vừa qua, tại Hội nghị xúc tiến đầu tư tỉnh Hậu Giang, Thủ tướng Nguyễn Xuân Phúc một lần nữa nhấn mạnh về việc hạn chế tối đa nhiệt điện than, nhất là một số công nghệ lạc hậu. Thủ tướng cũng cho rằng cần phải hạn chế nhiệt điện đốt than ở ĐBSCL vì nó sẽ “ảnh hưởng đến lợi ích lâu dài của địa phương.”

(TBKTSG Online) – Tin từ Bộ Công Thương cho biết, việc tạm dừng thị trường phát điện cạnh tranh từ ngày 1-10 vừa qua để xử lý tình huống khẩn cấp nên phải can thiệp vào thị trường.

The roles of community seed banks in climate change adaption

Abstract

Although community level seed-saving initiatives have been around for about 30 years, until recently they have received little attention in the scientific literature on climate change adaptation and plant genetic resources. Based on research experiences from various countries, this article argues that community seed banks can enhance the resilience of farmers, in particular of communities and households most affected by climate change. Community seed banks can secure improved access to, and availability of, diverse, locally adapted crops and varieties, and enhance related indigenous knowledge and skills in plant management, including seed selection, treatment, storage, multiplication, and distribution.

In his talk from TED2013, Bolin shares the meaning behind these images — that they are a way to examine the relationship between culture and its development, and to speak for those who are rendered invisible by the Chinese government, by consumer culture or simply by the circumstances of history.

“From the beginning, this series has a protesting, reflective and uncompromising spirit,” says Bolin.  “I think that in art, an artist’s attitude is the most important element. If an artwork is to touch someone, it must be the result of not only technique, but also the artist’s thinking and struggles in life.”

In this talk, Bolin shows us the very first image in the series, taken in November of 2005. He reveals many, many more images too, giving a peak into his process of being painted into the background — which can take anywhere from 3 to 4 hours to 3 to 4 days. The talk ends with a timelapse, showing how Bolin disappeared into the TED stage.

HANOI (Reuters) – Vietnamese authorities on Monday used water cannon and electric rods to end a five-month long protest by villagers blockading a textile plant that serves global fashion brands, an official and a villager said.

The blockade represents another challenge to the communist nation’s government over industrial pollution woes, at a time when Vietnam seeks more foreign investors to keep up one of the highest rates of growth in Southeast Asia.

Hundreds of people from the northern province of Hai Duong have maintained watch in shifts day and night since April to stop work at the Pacific Crystal Textiles mill, operated by Hong Kong-based Pacific Textiles.

TOKYO — ASEAN needs to more than double its power capacity in less than 20 years to meet burgeoning demand. British energy research and consultancy group Wood Mackenzie reported last week that the region requires $500 billion worth of investment to achieve such a goal.

telegraph.co.uk_In August last year, Sogyal Rinpoche, the Tibetan lama whose book The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying has sold more than three million copies around the world, and made him probably the best known Tibetan Buddhist teacher after the Dalai Lama, gave his annual teaching at his French centre Lerab Ling.

Sogyal’s organisation Rigpa – a Tibetan word meaning the essential nature of mind – has more than 100 centres in 40 countries around the world, but Lerab Ling, situated in rolling countryside in L’Hérault is the jewel in the crown. Boasting what is said to be the largest Tibetan Buddhist temple in the West, it was formally opened in 2008 by the Dalai Lama, with Carla Bruni Sarkozy, then France’s first lady, and a host of other dignitaries in attendance.

Sogyal is regarded by his students as a living embodiment of the Buddhist teachings of wisdom and compassion, but a man who teaches in a highly unorthodox way, known as ‘crazy wisdom’.

At Lerab Ling, more than 1000 students were gathered in the temple as he walked on stage, accompanied by his attendant, a Danish nun named Ani Chokyi. Sogyal, who is 70, is a portly, bespectacled man who requires a footstool to mount the throne from which he customarily teaches. Approaching the throne, he paused, then turned suddenly and punched the nun hard in the stomach.

Monsanto lobbyists barred from European Parliament

euractive_Monsanto has paid for its refusal to appear before the European Parliament by losing its right to enter it, as MEPS have shut the door on their lobbyists until further notice. EURACTIV France reports.

The Conference of the Presidents – composed of the leaders of the European Parlaiment’s groups – decided on Thursday (28 September) to withdraw the right of the American company’s lobbysts to access the Parliament’s buildings.

“We have just officially refused access to the European Parliament to Monsanto lobbyists. This decision has been taken by the Conferenfe of the Presidents on 28 September,” explained Marc Tarabella, head of the Belgian Socialist Party delegation, in a press release.
