VietNamNet Bridge – If 300-400 more small- and medium-sized hydropower plants are built, the total capacity would be 3,000-4,000 MW, or 15 billion kwh of electricity, according to the Vietnam Environment Administration (VEA).
VEA’s chair Tran Viet Ngai has proposed reconsidering the decision to remove small & medium hydropower projects and allow investment to resume.

MANILA: Vietnam urged other Southeast Asian nations to take a stronger stand against Chinese expansionism in the South China Sea on Saturday, as a tense regional security forum began with North Korea also under fire over its nuclear programme.
Ahead of the launch of the annual gathering of foreign ministers from the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Vietnam made a a bold play against China with a raft of suggested changes to a planned joint communique.
It set the stage for a fiery few days of diplomacy in the Philippine capital, with the top diplomats from China, the United States, Russia and North Korea to join their ASEAN and other Asia-Pacific counterparts for security talks from Sunday.
The meetings will take place as the United Nations Security Council votes this weekend on a US-drafted resolution to toughen sanctions against North Korea to punish the isolated regime for its missile tests.

(TBKTSG) – Việc Thủ tướng đề cập đến vấn đề huy động nguồn lực đô la Mỹ (USD) còn trong dân đã khiến vấn đề huy động vàng và USD trong dân trở nên nóng trở lại.
Để huy động được nguồn lực này, cần hiểu rõ hơn về nguồn USD, vàng trong dân còn bao nhiêu, ai đang nắm giữ. Thế nhưng hoàn toàn rất khó thống kê được con số này một cách đáng tin cậy. Người ta từng đồn đoán rằng Việt Nam có 500 tấn vàng trong dân (?) và không ai nói được có bao nhiêu USD trong dân có thể huy động được. Có thể thấy người làm chính sách tin là có một lượng USD và vàng rất lớn thừa trong dân không biết làm gì và đang nằm chờ huy động, mặc dù người ta không biết quy mô nó lớn cỡ nào, đối tượng nào nắm giữ nhiều và giữ để làm gì. (TBKTSG) – Khi Donald Trump tuyên bố, trong sắc lệnh đầu tiên của ông với tư cách tổng thống Mỹ, rằng Mỹ không còn tham gia vào Hiệp định Đối tác xuyên Thái Bình Dương (Trans Pacific Partnership – TPP), nhiều người đã cho rằng, thỏa thuận thương mại tự do thế hệ mới này đã chết. Nhưng hãy còn quá sớm để đọc lời ai điếu cho TPP.
Mặc dù không mong đợi ông Trump sẽ đổi ý nhưng 11 thành viên còn lại của TPP không cam tâm để cho công sức đàm phán gay go suốt năm năm trời bị đổ sông đổ biển chỉ vì quyết định của một tổng thống Mỹ – người mà theo nhận xét của nhà báo Thomas Friedman, dường như chưa đọc và chưa hiểu gì về TPP.
