TOKYO: Japan’s defence ministry on Thursday (Aug 31) sought US$160 million in a record budget request to develop swift, longer-range missiles to extend its military punch in East Asia, countering growing Chinese strength and an increasing North Korean threat.

If approved, the proposal for a rise of 2.5 per cent in defence spending to 5.26 trillion yen (US$48 billion) for the year starting April 1, will be the sixth straight annual increase as Prime Minister Shinzo Abe bolsters the military. BEIJING — China’s foreign minister said Wednesday he hopes India can “learn lessons” from a recently resolved border standoff and avoid such occurrences in the future, as the leaders of the two Asian giants prepare to meet next week for a summit in southeastern China.

Wang Yi’s remarks came after the countries agreed Monday to pull back their troops from a disputed Himalayan plateau where China, India and Bhutan meet.

“We’re hoping that their side will learn lessons from this incident and prevent some of the things from happening again. tuoitre.vn_Bí mật thành công của nền giáo dục Phần Lan chính là chất lượng dạy học, lấy học sinh làm trung tâm và đội ngũ giáo viên được quan tâm và ưu tiên hàng đầu, chứ không chạy đua theo thành tích.

Tất cả giáo viên đều được đào tạo nghiêm ngặt, phải có bằng thạc sĩ mới được đứng lớp và họ được xem là những chuyên gia giáo dục. Phần Lan lựa chọn và tuyển dụng giáo viên rất kỹ lưỡng. Chẳng hạn trong năm 2010, có 1.258 sinh viên đăng ký chương trình đào tạo giáo viên tiểu học nhưng chỉ 123 người (9,8%) được chấp nhận để tham gia chương trình đào tạo giáo viên tiểu học trong thời gian năm năm. Mức lương hằng năm của một giáo viên tiểu học từ 40.000-60.000 USD và giáo viên làm việc 190 ngày/năm.

“Chương trình đào tạo giáo viên tiểu học năm năm rất tốn kém, nhưng đội ngũ giáo viên được đào tạo ra đều có năng lực cao và được xã hội tôn trọng” – Jari Lavonen, trưởng khoa sư phạm tại đại học Helsinki, cho biết.

Bộ trưởng Bộ GD&ĐT Phùng Xuân Nhạ cùng đoàn công tác của Bộ GD&ĐT vừa có chuyến thăm và làm việc với nhiều cơ quan giáo dục của Phần Lan.

Theo đó, Bộ trưởng Bộ Giáo dục và Văn hóa Phần Lan Sanni Grahn-Laasonen, Bộ trưởng Phùng Xuân Nhạ đã chứng kiến ký kết 18 biên bản ghi nhớ giữa các trường ĐH và trung học của Việt Nam với các đối tác Phần Lan, mở ra nhiều cơ hội học tập tốt hơn cho học sinh, sinh viên Việt Nam.

Các biên bản ghi nhớ tập trung chủ yếu vào bốn lĩnh vực: Chuyển giao tài liệu về chương trình và sách giáo khoa, chuyển giao công nghệ đào tạo trực tuyến, khuyến khích mở thêm trường phổ thông Phần Lan ở Hà Nội (bên cạnh dự án trường phổ thông Phần Lan ở TP.HCM đang trong quá trình hoàn tất); hợp tác ĐH để cùng liên kết đào tạo một số lĩnh vực; phối hợp đào tạo và bồi dưỡng giáo viên.

Cũng trong dịp này, Bộ trưởng Phùng Xuân Nhạ đã hội đàm với bộ trưởng Thương mại và Phát triển Phần Lan. Hai bên đã trao đổi về khả năng mua bản quyền xuất bản các sách về toán, khoa học, tiếng Anh, chương trình STEM; nhập khẩu chương trình đào tạo bậc tiểu học, phổ thông, ĐH của Phần Lan; thúc đẩy các hoạt động hợp tác, dự án về khởi nghiệp…

Nguyen Duc Huu, deputy director of MOET’s primary education department, citing figures to show that the number of drowning deaths is on the rise, said it is necessary to teach swimming as an official subject not only at primary schools but at secondary schools, high schools, junior colleges and universities.

While the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has said that adding swimming to the official curricula is necessary, parents are protesting the plan, saying that this would burden students.

Ngu Duy Anh, another senior official of MOET, said the teaching would also help them develop both physically and mentally.

A company in Ho Chi Minh City has raised serious concerns after being caught burying a large amount of untreated garbage without permission from authorities.A recent probe by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper has revealed that Tam Sinh Nghia Investment Development JSC has been burying solid waste in an area within the Phuoc Hiep waste treatment complex in Cu Chi District, about 100 meters away from the company’s headquarters. thehill_Facebook is blocking pages that post fake news stories from buying ads as part of its efforts to curb hoax articles on its platform.

The company announced on Monday that it would prevent Facebook pages — public profiles for brands, celebrities, groups, businesses and other institutions — that repeatedly share news marked as “false” by third-party fact-checkers from advertising on its platform.

“This update will help to reduce the distribution of false news which will keep Pages that spread false news from making money,” wrote Facebook product managers Satwik Shukla and Tessa Lyons. “We’ve found instances of Pages using Facebook ads to build their audiences in order to distribute false news more broadly.”

The company noted that pages that stop posting fake news would be eligible to buy ads on Facebook again.In the post, the two managers reiterated Facebook’s stance that false information on the platform is “harmful” and “erodes trust.”

In December, the company announced that it would begin taking steps to curb fake stories from spreading across its platform. The move came after CEO Mark Zuckerberg initially downplayed the impact of false stories on Facebook.

“More than 99% of what people see is authentic,” Zuckerberg wrote just after the presidential election. “Only a very small amount is fake news and hoaxes.”

Facebook has since released features and tweaked its platform in a variety of ways to stop fake news from being shared on its website.

Most notably, the company introduced an option that allows users to report potentially fake stories as “false.” Third-party groups assess flagged stories to determine if they are fake. They also use algorithms to find false news stories.
