Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry Le Thi Thu Hang made the assertion on May 26 in reply to reporters’ query on Vietnam’s reaction to the Taiwanese action.
“Vietnam has full historical evidence and legal grounds to prove its sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spartly) archipelagos,” she said.
Taiwan’s organisation of drills in Ba Binh area in Vietnam’s Truong Sa archipelago is a serious violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty over the archipelago, threatening peace, stability, security, and safety of navigation, as well as causing tensions and complicating the situation in the East Sea, she added.
“Once again, Vietnam resolutely opposes and demands Taiwan to not repeat similar activities,” she stressed.

Doha, Qatar — The Philippines must “act fast” in occupying its islands in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) before it loses them to other claimants, President Duterte said last Saturday in his talk at a Philippine-Qatar business forum here.
“With the movement of people there occupying the lands, I ordered my military to occupy the remaining 10 islands which are not inhabited, place our flag there, put some structures,” Duterte said in his remarks.

China claims most of the energy-rich waters through which about US$5 trillion in ship-borne trade passes every year. Neighbours Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam also have claims.
Taiwan’s claim to Itu Aba is complicated by the fact that China considers Taiwan sovereign territory. Taiwan and China both claim the South China Sea using old maps that date back to the late 1940s when the Nationalists ruled China. China is building islands in the South China sea and its causing disputes among the other nations in the region; Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam, and Indonesia. The US has many allies in the region and uses its massive Navy to patrol international waters, keeping shipping lanes open for trade.

MANILA: The Philippines has filed a diplomatic protest with China, its foreign minister said on Monday, over Beijing’s installation last year of anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems on its manmade islands in the disputed South China Sea.
The protest note was sent to the Chinese embassy in December, after confirmation of a report from the US-based Center for Strategic and International Studies about a weapons buildup on seven artificial islands in the Spratlys. Vào sáng 8-12, Hải quân Trung Quốc đã rầm rộ tổ chức cái gọi là “lễ kỉ niệm 70 năm ngày Trung Quốc thu phục” quần đảo Hoàng Sa và Trường Sa của Việt Nam. Tư lệnh Hải quân Trung Quốc, Đô đốc Ngô Thắng Lợi đã tham dự hoạt động phi lý này và truyền đi thông điệp hiếu chiến “yêu cầu quân đội Trung Quốc tập trung sẵn sàng cho chiến trận”.
