This technical report is the first GGGI study that focuses on the nexus of sustainable energy and green jobs. Based on researched conducted in three GGGI member countries – Mexico, Indonesia, and Rwanda, the study assessed the job creation potential of renewable energy technologies under various power sector pathways based on National Energy Plans and countries’ NDCs. Occupation and skills required by the renewable energy sector for each stage of the value chain were also identified and assessed. The analysis highlights the important role that assessments of employment effects can play during the revision of countries’ NDCs while simultaneously addressing the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to affordable and clean energy (7), decent work and economic growth (8) and climate action (13).

Bộ Công Thương (MOIT) dự kiến sẽ thực hiện Dự án hỗ trợ kỹ thuật Thúc đẩy phát triển điện mặt trời trong giai đoạn 2020 – 2025 do Ngân hàng Thế giới tài trợ. Dự án sẽ hỗ trợ Việt Nam nghiên cứu chuyển đổi từ cơ chế giá điện cố định (FIT) sang đấu thầu cạnh tranh đối với phát triển điện mặt trời. Hỗ trợ kỹ thuật này sẽ giúp Chính phủ (i) rà soát, lựa chọn các trạm biến áp cho đấu thầu thí điểm theo trạm biến áp, (ii) hiểu rõ hơn nhu cầu nâng cấp lưới (bổ sung các giải pháp về lưu trữ, điều độ, điện áp và tần số) để tích hợp nguồn điện năng lượng tái tạo và (iii) xác định và lựa chọn các khu vực đất cho các nhà máy điện mặt trời quy mô lớn.

BACKGROUND
The Renewable Energy Buyers Vietnam Working Group is co-organized by the Clean Energy Investment Accelerator (CEIA) and the USAID Vietnam Low Emission Energy Program (V-LEEP). Since 2017, the Working Group has brought together commercial and industrial (C&I) energy users interested in procuring clean energy, as well as renewable energy project developers and investors, and Government of Vietnam representatives.
The recurring Working Group is a platform for corporate RE market stakeholders to collectively identify and work toward policy, regulatory and financing frameworks needed to meet clean energy goals in Vietnam.
