NEW YORK: North Korea may test a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean, its foreign minister said on Thursday (Sep 21).

North Korean leader’s half-brother ‘killed’ in Malaysia

SINGAPORE: The half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Kim Jong-nam has been killed in Malaysia, South Korean media reported on Tuesday (Feb 14).

Malaysia’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Mohmad Salleh earlier told Channel NewsAsia that travel documents found on the man indicated he was Kim Jong-nam. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un guided a special operations drill targeting the South, the North’s media reported on Sunday, as rival South Korea remained on alert for any attempt by the North to take advantage of political turmoil in the South.

The North’s KCNA state news agency report did not say when North Korean forces conducted the combat exercise, nor did it mention the South Korean parliament’s vote on Friday to impeach its president, Park Geun-hye. U.S. sanctions North Korean leader for first time over human rights

The United States on Wednesday sanctioned North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for the first time, citing “notorious abuses of human rights,” in a move diplomats say will infuriate the nuclear-armed country.

The sanctions, the first to target any North Koreans for rights abuses, affect property and other assets within the U.S. jurisdiction. They include 10 other individuals besides Kim and five government ministries and departments, the U.S. Treasury Department said in a statement.
