Israeli space launch vehicle Shavit sends a military intelligence satellite into space in March 2023. The same Shavit rocket can launch ballistic missiles, including the nuclear-capable, three-stage Jericho III intermediate-range ballistic missile. This month, Palestinian photographer Samar Abu Elouf won the 2025 World Press Photo of the Year award for her image titled Mahmoud Ajjour, Aged Nine, taken last year for The New York Times.

Ajjour had both of his arms blown off by an Israeli strike on the Gaza Strip, where Israel’s ongoing genocide has now killed at least 52,365 Palestinians since October 2023. In the award-winning photograph, the boy’s head and armless torso are cast in partial shadow, his gaze nevertheless intense in its emptiness.

Israel kills a child in Gaza every 45 minutes.

That is an average of 30 children killed every day over the past 535 days. ​

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has killed at least 17,400 children, including 15,600 who have been identified. Many more remain buried under the rubble, most presumed dead.

Many of the surviving children have endured the trauma of multiple wars, and all of them have spent their lives under the oppressive shadow of an Israeli blockade, affecting every aspect of their existence from birth.

What is left of Gaza’s children?

About half of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents are children.

Over the past 17 months, Israeli attacks have left their homes in ruins, destroyed their schools, and overwhelmed their healthcare facilities.

To put this in perspective, if you had a room of 100 children:

  • 2 have been killed
  • 2 are missing, presumed dead
  • 3 have been wounded, many critically
  • 5 have been orphaned or separated from their parents
  • 5 require treatment for acute malnutrition

The rest of the children bear the invisible scars of war, trauma that affects their mental health, safety and future.

The image above is a TripAdvisor listing of a heritage site managed by settlers in the village of Susiya – on Palestinian land. The UN has released a list of over 100 other companies that also have business interests in Israeli settlements built on Palestinian land.

But why is this a problem?

Illegal Settlements

In 1967, Israel began the process of building settlements on occupied Palestinian territory.

Firstly, what is a settlement?

It is Israel’s building of villages, towns and cities on occupied Palestinian territory.

What makes them illegal?

The transfer of Israeli civilians to these settlements is illegal under international law. In fact it is a war crime according to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

Hundreds of thousands Displaced

Since 1948, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians had to flee their homes to escape violence or were forcibly removed. Not just their they lost their land and businesses too. Many are remain in refugee camps till this day. Here they have become parents and even grand parents.

Suffocating laws

Some Palestinians stayed behind and refused to give up their land. Their lives have been made impossible as consecutive governments have introduced discriminatory laws and policies, in the hope they will eventually leave. But as the settlements continue to expand some are still standing their ground.

The Palestinian village of Susiya, in the occupied West Bank is home to around 300 Palestinians. The village has a few tents and shacks, a couple of water cisterns and some sheep. There is no access to electricity or running water.

Human rights advocates on Friday highlighted a rare instance in which a U.S. corporate media outlet allowed a pro-Palestinian voice to set the record straight about Israel’s crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Earlier this week, CNN “News Central” aired a panel segment on the anniversary of the October 7, 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel and Israel’s retaliatory war. Anchor Kate Bolduan noted that around 1,200 people were killed during the Hamas attack—although she did not say that at least some of them were slain by Israeli forces in “friendly fire” incidents and under the Hannibal Directive—and that 250 others were kidnapped.

2.500 năm trước, đế triều Aechemenid của Ba Tư trị vì từ Hy Lạp đến Ubezkistan và từ Libya đến Ấn Độ, là một trong những đế chế lớn nhất lịch sử, diện tích 5,5 triệu km2, bao trùm cả… Israel ngày nay.

Trong kinh Cựu ước của Kitô, tức là sách thánh của đạo Do Thái, Đế Ba Tư Cyrus vĩ đại là ân nhân của dân tộc Do Thái và được Do Thái đưa lên hàng “thiên sứ”. Hy vọng mới về một nhà nước Palestine

TTCT – Năm 2023 đối với cá nhân tôi đáng nhớ vì vào cuối năm xảy ra sự cố Gaza. Dĩ nhiên đây là về mặt chủ quan cá nhân vì tôi có nhiều gắn bó với khu vực và có nhiều quan hệ với người Palestine tị nạn ở Lebanon và nước ngoài.

Dẫu vậy, tôi chưa hề đặt chân lên lãnh thổ Palestine.

Lebanon là một trong những quốc gia còn trong tình trạng chiến tranh với Israel và mỗi bận tôi nhập cảnh Lebanon là công an cửa khẩu lật sổ thông hành của tôi ra dò kỹ từng trang. Nếu bạn có con dấu Israel là họ không cho bạn vào. 

Mỗi bận như vậy, tôi nói thách anh tìm ra con dấu vì tôi sẽ chỉ đặt chân đến lãnh thổ đó ngày nào có một nhà nước Palestine độc lập và chủ quyền. Các anh cười nhưng lần nào cũng vẫn dò tìm con dấu tiếp.
