Thiếu hồ sơ, giấy tờ theo quy định. Không đủ khả năng chi trả. Bị khiếm thị. Mắc chứng tự kỷ… Những thân phận hẩm hiu được gột rửa, nâng đỡ. Trường giàu tình thương, trò hạnh phúc.

“Sometimes it is almost impossible not to feel hopeless and broken,” says the climate scientist Ruth Cerezo-Mota. “After all the flooding, fires, and droughts of the last three years worldwide, all related to climate change, and after the fury of Hurricane Otis in Mexico, my country, I really thought governments were ready to listen to the science, to act in the people’s best interest.”

Instead, Cerezo-Mota expects the world to heat by a catastrophic 3C this century, soaring past the internationally agreed 1.5C target and delivering enormous suffering to billions of people. This is her optimistic view, she says.

TTCT – Chuyện sinh viên Mỹ biểu tình trong khuôn viên nhà trường không có gì lạ, nhưng khi ban giám hiệu Đại học Columbia kêu cảnh sát tới giải tán sinh viên rồi bắt đi hơn 100 người, vụ việc trở nên lớn chuyện.

Các cuộc biểu tình tương tự lan rộng ra các trường đại học, kéo theo nhiều vụ bắt bớ khác.

2h chiều thứ tư 17-4, hiệu trưởng Đại học Columbia, bà Minouche Shafik, bước ra khỏi tòa nhà Quốc hội Mỹ, thở phào nhẹ nhõm. Bà tưởng đâu đã thoát tình cảnh như hai đồng nghiệp, hiệu trưởng Đại học Harvard Claudine Gay và Đại học Pennsylvania (UPenn) Liz Magill từng rơi vào, khi bị mời ra điều trần trước Ủy ban Giáo dục Hạ viện. 

Hai bà này trả lời lấp lửng, còn tùy bối cảnh, khi được hỏi việc kêu gọi diệt chủng dân Do Thái có vi phạm nội quy ứng xử của nhà trường không. Dư luận phản ứng dữ dội, hai bà lần lượt phải từ chức.

Tính đến ngày 27-4 (giờ Việt Nam), các sinh viên đã dựng lều phản đối trong khuôn viên của ít nhất 50 trường đại học, cao đẳng ở Mỹ, từ các trường nổi tiếng trong nhóm Ivy League cho đến các trường công lập. Nhiều sinh viên cho biết sẽ không dừng việc biểu tình cho đến khi yêu cầu được đáp ứng.

ICJ phán quyết tạm thời vụ kiện Nam Phi – Israel

Tòa án Công lý quốc tế (ICJ) vừa đưa ra một quyết định liên quan vụ kiện của Nam Phi đối với Israel về tội “diệt chủng” khi tiến hành hoạt động quân sự chống lực lượng Hamas ở Dải Gaza, gây ra cái chết cho hàng chục ngàn thường dân Palestine vô tội.

Các thẩm phán Tòa ICJ đưa ra phán quyết.

Tuy nhiên, ICJ cũng mở cho Israel một lối thoát “cửa hậu” bằng cách không đáp ứng hoàn toàn yêu cầu của Nam Phi là buộc Israel ngừng bắn ngay lập tức mà chỉ yêu cầu Israel “đảm bảo rằng hành động quân sự tại Gaza là không diệt chủng”.

Xin so sánh với chiến tranh tại Ukraine, tuy đây không phải là một cuộc thi hoa hậu. Dân số Gaza là 2,3 triệu và dân số Ukraine là 43,8 triệu, tức gấp 19 lần. Các số liệu ở Gaza là từ 7-10-2023 cho đến 10-1-2024 (3 tháng), còn ở Ukraine là từ 24-2-2022 đến 24-9-2023 (19 tháng).

EU vốn không cho thấy sự thống nhất trong nỗ lực hòa giải xung đột Israel – Hamas. Quan điểm của 27 quốc gia thành viên EU không hoàn toàn nhất quán trong việc giải quyết vấn đề này và thực tế là EU đã gần như giữ im lặng về vụ kiện của Nam Phi.
