Teachers in Hong Kong are leaving in record numbers. About 6,550 resigned or retired in the last academic year, almost twice the average prior to 2021. One possible reason? The National Security Law. Changes to the curriculum and limits on what can be discussed have left liberal-minded educators feeling stifled. Teachers are also worried that they risk censure should class discussions run afoul of the law. At the same time, thousands of students have also dropped out of Hong Kong schools, as the emigration wave continues. Some classrooms now sit empty. How will Hong Kong schools emerge from this shake up, and what will they look like after?

President Trump promised to punish the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials who were responsible for eviscerating Hong Kong’s freedoms.  Today, we are taking action to do just that.

The CCP has stepped up efforts to undermine Hong Kong’s high degree of autonomy by announcing Beijing’s authority to “supervise” Hong Kong’s governance, accusing at least one member of Hong Kong’s Legislative Council of misconduct, and moving to unilaterally and arbitrarily impose national security legislation on Hong Kong.  Beijing’s continued actions undermine its commitments and obligations in the Sino-British Joint Declaration to respect Hong Kong’s high degree of autonomy.  At the same time, Beijing continues to undermine human rights and fundamental freedoms in Hong Kong by putting pressure on local authorities to arrest pro-democracy activists and disqualify pro-democracy electoral candidates. NN 27/10/2017, 14:16 (GMT+7) Lượng kiều hối của trên dưới 1.000 cô gái lấy chồng ngoại hàng năm gửi về nhiều như nước sông He mùa lụt. Nhưng đằng sau vẻ hào nhoáng lấp lánh như bề ngoài của một tấm huy chương ấy là góc khuất ít người biết đến…

Dạt trôi những phận người

Chưa ở đâu tôi thấy nhiều biệt thự như xã Đại Hợp (huyện Kiến Thụy, Hải Phòng). Những công trình hoành tráng mọc lên san sát như bát úp. Đó là nhà của những người có con gái lấy chồng ngoại. Nhà nào có 1 cô thì to vừa, có 2 cô thì to bự, có 3 hay 4 cô thì như biệt phủ, biệt điện. Bởi thế mà câu hỏi quen thuộc của nhiều bà ở đây là: “Nhà chị có mấy đứa con lấy chồng ngoại?”.

Hundreds of people with yellow umbrellas surrounded government headquarters on Thursday to mark the third anniversary of the event that set off Hong Kong’s biggest pro-democracy protests.

The jailing of Joshua Wong, Hong Kong’s youthful “face of protest”, and of his fellow activists Nathan Law and Alex Chow, is technically a matter of law but in reality one of politics. Two of them had already carried out community service for unlawful assembly or inciting unlawful assembly; the third had received a suspended sentence. That was not enough. They have been at the forefront of the pro-democracy movement, inspiring many more in Hong Kong to rally in defence of the greater freedoms it has enjoyed compared to the mainland under the “one country-two systems” formula. Authorities have been determined to silence these voices. By appealing against the “rather dangerous” supposed leniency of the original sentences, they have succeeded, for now. TTCT– Sau 20 năm, mô hình “một quốc gia, hai chế độ” do Đặng Tiểu Bình đề xuất không chỉ là một thử nghiệm chính trị nữa, mà đã là đời sống hằng ngày ở vùng lãnh thổ này.

Mối quan hệ giữa Hong Kong và đại lục sau 20 năm vẫn chưa thật sự rõ ràng– scmp.com

Tuy nhiên, liệu mô hình quản trị nhà nước có một không hai đó có thành công hay không vẫn còn là một câu hỏi lớn.

Mô hình này được xác lập vào năm 1984 và triển khai ở Hong Kong vào năm chuyển giao 1997, được ca ngợi là bộ khung thực tế nhất để thống nhất hai vùng đất chia cách nhau 150 năm về ý thức hệ và khác biệt thể chế.
