The Pentagon on Wednesday uninvited China from a major United States-hosted naval drill in response to what it sees as Beijing’s militarization of islands in the South China Sea, a decision the Asian country called unconstructive.

“As an initial response to China’s continued militarization of the South China Sea we have disinvited the PLA Navy from the 2018 Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise,” said Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Logan, a Pentagon spokesman. The Mekong has long cast a mystical spell over adventurers, wildlife experts, and
scientists enchanted by its spectacular rapids and waterfalls, along with its endangered dolphins, giant manta rays, and Siamese crocodiles. The river’s biodiversity is second only to the Amazon.

In recent years, however, this great international river – which flows through six countries – has increasingly grabbed the attention of engineers, technocrats, and energy consultants on a very different kind of mission: to exploit its roaring currents in pursuit of hydropower.

Any idea of environmental protection for the wonders of the Mekong has been marginalized by China’s grand Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with its focus firmly fixed on trade, infrastructure development, and, along the Mekong, dam construction. Hãng GAP cam kết trong một thông báo trên Hoàn Cầu Thời Báo rằng họ “tôn trọng chủ quyền và sự vẹn toàn lãnh thổ của Trung Quốc”.

Báo mạng chuyên về kinh tế – tài chính Business Insider của Mỹ, phát hành bằng 8 thứ tiếng Anh, Ba Lan, Đức, Hà Lan, Nhật, Pháp, Hoa, Ý, còn “lập công” khi cho biết “đến tối thứ hai, Business Insider vẫn tìm thấy áo thun gây tranh cãi của Hãng GAP được bán” ngoài thị trường. Hanoi’s hopes of a hydrocarbon boost to its stretched government budget have been dashed. And the culprit is Vietnam’s ‘good neighbour, good comrade and good friend’ to the north.

The project, many years in the making, was a joint venture between Repsol of Spain, Mubadala of Abu Dhabi and the state-owned energy company PetroVietnam. Commercial drilling was due to begin this April and oil and gas were expected to flow for at least 10 years. A specialised platform built in the port of Vung Tau lies idle, as do the contracted drilling rig and storage tanker. Bữa cơm đầu tiên ở bên kia biên giới của Sùng Mí Tú là cái bánh bao nhân thịt với chai nước trắng.

Tú 15 tuổi, nhỏ nhất trong nhóm người Mông xã Sà Phìn vượt biên sang Trung Quốc làm thuê. Mỗi ngày, em nhận được 80 nhân dân tệ cho công đào 160 hố trồng cây bạch đàn.

Tú không biết mình đang ở vùng nào của Trung Quốc, địa hình xung quanh ra sao. 10 người trú ở cái lán nằm sâu trong rừng. Ban đêm, họ rủ nhau đi ngủ sớm. Không ai dám đi quá khu lán một cây số vì sợ lạc đường, hoặc công an biên phòng Trung Quốc truy quét. Bị bắt rồi thì trả về nước, tiền công cũng mất hết.

China unveiled the concept for the Twenty-First Century Maritime Silk Road (MSR) in 2013 as a development strategy to boost infrastructure connectivity throughout Southeast Asia, Oceania, the Indian Ocean, and East Africa. The MSR is the maritime complement to the Silk Road Economic Belt, which focuses on infrastructure development across Central Asia. TVN – Theo như châm ngôn của Eisenhower về việc xới tung vấn đề để giải quyết nó, việc mở rộng hợp tác vượt quá khuôn khổ nguồn nước tiến tới năng lượng và các lĩnh vực tài nguyên khác sẽ mở ra những cơ hội mới cho hợp tác khu vực trên cơ sở có qua có lại và hiệp lực. 

Khi được hỏi về thành công của mình với tư cách là một người lính và một chính trị gia, Tổng thống Mỹ Eisenhower đã trả lời: Bất cứ lúc nào tôi gặp phải vấn đề không thể giải quyết, tôi luôn luôn xới to nó lên. Tôi không thể giải quyết nó bằng cách cố gắng ép nó nhỏ đi, nhưng nếu tôi làm cho nó đủ lớn, tôi có thể nhìn thấy bản phác họa của giải pháp”.

Cách tiếp cận của Eisenhower có thể tương tự với tình hình của sông Mekong ngày nay.

greatermekong – The subregion is one of the least urbanized areas in the world, but its cities are growing and their economic impact is being felt. 

Urbanization levels in the Greater Mekong Subregion are low, ranging from 19.5% in Cambodia to 44.2% in Thailand. However, in all GMS countries, urban areas account for a much larger percentage of the gross domestic product (GDP)—at least half in most countries and about 75% in Thailand—than the share of its national populations.

Urbanization growth rates in the subregion range from 4.9% annually in Yunnan Province, People’s Republic of China (PRC) —six times the provincial population growth rate—to a low of 2.6% annually in Myanmar—1.7 times the national population growth rate. greatermekong – Economic corridors are areas, usually along major roadways, that host a variety of economic and social activities. This includes factories, tourism, trade, environmental protection activities and other aspects of the economy and social development of an area.

An economic corridor is much more complex than a mere road connecting two cities. It involves not only the development of infrastructure but also the crafting of laws and regulations that make it easier to do business, access markets, and conduct other activities that support trade and development in a comprehensive manner.
