Car imports set a new record

The volume of imported cars reached 74,000 in the first eight months of the year, a 100 per cent increase year-on-year, according to the General Statistics Office.

This is the highest number recorded over the last five years. The import value was US$1.9 billion, a rise of $332 million compared to 2014 and $1.2 billion compared to 2013.

Domestic sales could hit 200,000 vehicles for the entire year as auto consumption usually improves by year-end.

Car and spare part imports increased 80.2 per cent year-on-year in the first eight months, reaching $3.8 billion.
