Vietnam and Indonesia agreed to delimit their respective Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs) on 22 December 2022 after 12 years of negotiations. The agreement provides hope for the strengthening of the region’s commitment to international maritime norms and principles encapsulated in the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Vietnam’s President Nguyen Xuan Phuc will make a historic visit to Indonesia, a G20 member and de facto leader of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), from Dec. 21–23, 2022, to reshape strategic ties between the two countries. President Phuc will be accompanied by First Lady Tran Nguyet Thin, several senior officials, and a business delegation.

This will be Phuc’s first visit to Indonesia ever since becoming Vietnam’s president on April 5, 2021. His state visit marks a new milestone in the 67 years of bilateral relations between Vietnam and Indonesia.

TTCT – Para Games, kỳ đại hội thể thao Đông Nam Á dành cho người khuyết tật luôn đi cặp với SEA Games, đã không diễn ra đúng như thông lệ ở lần tổ chức thứ 11. Thay vì do Việt Nam tổ chức, Para Games 2022 lại diễn ra ở thành phố Surakarta, Indonesia.

Đây là lần thứ 2 trong lịch sử, Việt Nam phải nhờ Indonesia đăng cai thay một kỳ đại hội thể thao. Lần đầu tiên là Asiad 2018, khi chủ nhà Hà Nội từ bỏ quyền đăng cai, rồi được Jakarta “cứu thua”.

JAKARTA — The 239 Vietnamese fishermen freed by Indonesia are set to return home tomorrow.

A Vietnam News Agency report said yesterday that the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia had worked with competent localities authorities to complete procedures for repatriating the fishermen.

Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh has requested Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry to investigate and clarify reports that an Indonesian naval ship shot and wounded two Vietnamese fishermen last week.

Minh made the request during a phone call with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on Friday, underlining that the shooting was a serious incident that did not match the current soundly-developing strategic partnership between the two countries.
