Cambodia’s Angkor Wat, or “City of Temples”, is the largest religious structure in the world.
A truly spectacular place, it is deeply revered across Cambodia and depicted on its flag as the defining image of the nation.
In 1992, UNESCO designated Angkor as a World Heritage Site.
The UN agency also affirmed it as a “living” site whose traditional communities were as important as the stones.
But now, locals accuse the Cambodian government of the mass forced eviction of thousands of people from those communities, while the government claims each one has voluntarily moved after settling illegally in Angkor. It also says the relocations are at UNESCO’s behest.

More travellers are visiting an unusual destination – Afghanistan. Since 2021, the war-torn nation has seen tourism rise more than 900 per cent. Some attribute the change to official data reporting a sharp drop in violence and increased flight connections from major cities like Dubai. Most foreign visitors are from China, reportedly because of proximity and relative ease of obtaining tourist visas. The tourism buzz has undoubtedly brought economic benefits, but others worry the nation’s efforts to draw visitors amount to propaganda hiding the dark side of Taliban rule.

Hue, Vung Tau, and Quy Nhon have been awarded the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Awards 2024, recognized for their commitment to cleanliness, managing waste, and promoting environmental awareness.
The award ceremony is part of the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024, held in the Laos capital Vientiane, from Jan. 22 – 27.
These three destinations have been honored with the ASEAN Clean Tourism City award before. Quy Nhon earned the award in 2020, while Vung Tau and Hue have each claimed the award three times previously.

Phu Quoc authorities have pledged to improve the quality of tourism services on the island and prevent price gouging as they seek to reverse the recent slump in tourism.
They said they would establish an inspection team with officials from various agencies to check the quality and prices of tourism services during the peak holiday season comprising Christmas, New Year and Lunar New Year.

Theo hồ sơ đề nghị bổ sung quy hoạch của Công ty CP Đầu tư – Phát triển năng lượng sạch Tây Nguyên (doanh nghiệp đề xuất), vị trí 3 dự án thủy điện Đắk R’lấp 1, 2, 3 nằm chủ yếu trong phân khu bảo vệ nghiêm ngặt của rừng đặc dụng VQG Cát Tiên (tả ngạn sông Đồng Nai, thuộc tỉnh Lâm Đồng) và rừng phòng hộ Nam Cát Tiên (hữu ngạn sông Đồng Nai, thuộc tỉnh Đắk Nông), chỉ một phần nhỏ ở tỉnh Bình Phước nhưng cũng là đất rừng.
Chưa có số liệu chính thức bao nhiêu hecta rừng sẽ bị ảnh hưởng nếu triển khai 3 dự án thủy điện này. Theo hồ sơ đề xuất của doanh nghiệp đề xuất, diện tích chiếm đất của 3 dự án là 197 ha, trong đó có đến 145 ha rừng. Song, cơ quan chức năng tỉnh Lâm Đồng xác định diện tích chiếm đất của 3 dự án này còn lớn hơn nhiều, ít nhất phải 464 ha.

For weeks Hanoian Bùi Trang Dung was unable to decide where to take her family for vacation last summer.
