As a nod to the 40th anniversary of the end of the war with the Americans: T.N. recommends a novel dealing with the post-war diaspora — “The Sympathizer” — by Vietnamese-American writer and teacher, Viet Thanh Nguyen at USC.
The problem we highlight in this issue is the decision by the government of Ha Noi to cut down 6,700 trees. People protest and save most of them; on the other hand, city government fails to account to its citizens the who, what, why … of this policy, and to date no one has yet taken the responsibility for it.

Nhân dịp 40 năm chấm dứt giai đoạn chiến tranh Việt – Việt và Việt – Mỹ, chúng tôi trích đăng ít trang đầu của cuốn tiểu thuyết “The Sympathizer” của một nhà văn gốc Việt hiện đang dạy tại ĐH USC, bang Cali bên Mỹ: Nguyễn Thành Việt, và hy vọng bạn đọc sẽ tìm đọc nguyên bản đầy đủ cuốn này.
Một vấn đề gây bức xúc trong dân tình hồi tháng 4/2015 là việc lãnh đạo TP Hà Nội cho phép đốn 6,700 cây cổ thụ trên đường phố. May là dân chúng khắp nước phản ứng kịp thời và mạnh mẽ nên đa số các cây này còn đứng trụ vững chãi; tuy nhiên lãnh đạo TP HN vẫn chưa giải thích thỏa đáng, cũng như chưa thấy ai lãnh trách nhiệm về quyết định này.
