Hanoi and Washington called for refrain from any tension escalation in the East Vietnam Sea, including “the militarization of disputed features,” had “frank and constructive dialogue” to narrow differences on human rights, agreed to promote bilateral trade, and shared concern over ballistic missile tests by North Korea in a joint statement following Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to the White House on May 31.
The Vietnamese premier visited the U.S. at the invitation of President Donald Trump from May 29 to 31.
President Trump hosted PM Phuc in the Oval Office and addressed various issues related to their two countries’ comprehensive relationship.
The U.S. president said he was looking forward to visiting Vietnam and attending the APEC Leaders’ meeting in Da Nang in November this year.
