Đầu thế kỷ 17, Chúa Nguyễn cho phép những người nước ngoài đến làm ăn, buôn bán chính thức tại Hội An; trong đó các nhà buôn người Nhật và Hoa Kiều chiếm đại đa số. Nhân kỷ niệm 9 năm Cù Lao Chàm được công nhận Khu dự trữ sinh quyển thế giới, trong dịp này Ban quản lý Khu dự trữ sinh quyển cũng đã đưa ra lời phát động “Không sử dụng ống hút nhựa”.
Với thông điệp, bắt đầu từ những hành động nhỏ, “Cù Lao Chàm nói không với túi ni lông” và bây giờ là “Không sử dụng ống hút nhựa” để hòa cùng nhân loại bảo vệ trái đất này, cũng chính là bảo vệ vẻ đẹp tự nhiên và duy trì tính đa dạng sinh học tại quần đảo Cù Lao Chàm.
Chỉ mới xuất hiện 60-70 năm nay, nhưng với đặc tính tiện lợi, gọn nhẹ, điều này cũng khiến nó trở thành sát thủ tận diệt môi trường, khiến các đại dương bị đe dọa chưa từng thấy và là đại nạn toàn cầu. Viet Nam News QUẢNG NAM — The Chàm island’s Marine Protected Area (MPA) management board started conservation of the green turtle (Chelonia mydas) by hatching 450 eggs taken from Côn Đảo Island on August 30.
