HÀ NỘI — Preparations for the upcoming 8th Đà Lạt Flower Festival were underway and would be completed by November 30, according to officials.

Authorities in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong have kick-started the 2019 Lang Biang Pink Grass Festival as pink grass once again takes over vast portions of local hills in Lac Duong District, creating an other-worldly scene.

As the rainy season comes to an end in Lam Dong and the dry season begins, the low temperature creates an ideal condition for a new generation of pink grass to engulf hilltops throughout several locations in the Dan Kia Lake – Golden Stream area. A while back I wrote about all the activities routinely taking place on sidewalks, preparing travellers to cope with the endless commotion that turns a relaxing stroll into a game of hopscotch and a mad dash down the gauntlet (Read here).One example of the clutter is a cafe that uses the sidewalk to wash and dry dishes, prepare vegetables, store mops, garbage, brooms, and write letters to faraway relatives. I reported they have everything but the kitchen sink out on the sidewalk (an expression meaning a lot of items), then later realized the kitchen sink is right there too, in the midst of the hubbub! Introducing Bach Long Vi island in northern Vietnam

Bach Long Vi, or “White Dragon’s Tail,” is an island district about 130 kilometers off the northern coastal city of Hai Phong and Vietnam’s furthest territory in the Gulf of Tonkin.

Though the island’s acreage is small, only about 2.5 square kilometers during high tide and four square kilometers during low tide, Bach Long Vi still boasts an impressive combination of golden-yellow sandy beaches and mountains, making it the ideal place to admire gorgeous coastal sunrises and sunsets.

Getting to the island can be a little tricky. It takes up to ten hours to travel from Hai Phong to Bach Long Vi and the 100-seat boat which travels the route only operates three to four times a month.

Menacing macaques snatch bags of crisps, water bottles, cookies and crackers from uneasy tourists on Vietnam’s Monkey Island, a popular attraction decried as cruel by activists calling for an end to animal tourism in Southeast Asia.

Tourists are encouraged to show the monkeys their empty hands if they don’t want to be accosted by the aggressive macaques, who routinely steal snacks, hats, and even mobile phones from visitors, who nervously laugh and snap pictures.

(NLĐO) – Sáng 22-10, phóng viên ghi nhận cảnh đìu hiu, hoang phế của các dự án khu du lịch (KDL), biệt thự, resort bị Thanh tra Chính phủ khẳng định sai phạm tại Bán đảo Sơn Trà (TP Đà Nẵng).

Theo kết luận của Thanh tra Chính phủ (TTCP), tại bán đảo Sơn Trà (TP Đà Nẵng), chỉ có 1 trong số 18 dự án được Bộ Quốc phòng thông qua, cùng hàng loạt sai phạm về thẩm định, cho thuê sử dụng đất, xâm lấn vào đất rừng đặc dụng.

Photographer Pham Huy Trung went to the Mekong Delta during the annual flooding season, and these are what caught his eye.

Unlike in central Vietnam where severe floods often result in death and destruction, the flooding season in the Mekong Delta is seen as a gift from heaven that brings tons of fish into the paddy fields along with alluvial deposits to fertilize the next crop. It usually lasts from July until the end of November.

Farmers wade into a flooded field in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap to harvest water chestnut, an aquatic vegetable that grows in marshes under water. Water chestnut is grown in many countries for its edible corm, and it is a common ingredient in Chinese dishes such as water chestnut cake.
