Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — Srey Phirum Khun, 45, used to spend 8 hours travelling from Cambodia’s Kampong Speu Province to HCM City in Việt Nam for health checkups and treatment. Today, she no longer faces the grueling journey thanks to the inauguration of the Chợ Rẫy Phnom Penh Hospital in January 2014.
“I no longer have to travel abroad for treatment. It helps save my money and time,” she said with a smile.

HONG KONG/PHNOM PENH Just a few blocks from the Royal Palace, in the traditional heart of downtown Phnom Penh, sits one of Cambodia’s most renowned Chinese schools. Over the past century, the Tuan Hoa School has witnessed the many ups and downs of the capital. Today, it has front-row seats to an unprecedented boom.

PHNOM PENH: The Cambodian government has illegal Vietnamese migrants in its sights, threatening to deport any “newcomers” unable to produce correct and legal documentation.

“Robam kbach boran,” or the art of Khmer classical dance, is more than 1,000 years old. It was developed as a prayer in movement for rain and fertility, and a prosperity that this meant for an agricultural society. Dancers who were both men and women were offered to temples where they served as living bridges between heaven and earth. Their dancing bodies carried the prayers of the people up to the gods, and the will of the deities was delivered back through them to the people and the land.

Rubber giant Vietnam Rubber Group (VRG) has been expelled from the world’s leading forest certification body, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), following an investigation into illegal land and forest clearance in Cambodia. Responding to a complaint submitted by Global Witness last November, the FSC found that the state-owned company had illegally destroyed at least 50,000 hectares of forest for its rubber plantations in Cambodia alone, including wildlife sanctuaries and protected areas.
“The FSC investigation provides further evidence that VRG has destroyed some of South East Asia’s most important remaining forests, with indigenous communities forcibly displaced in the process, and is forcibly taking land from its rightful owners and destroying livelihoods – with untold and irreversible effects,” said Patrick Alley, a Founding Director of Global Witness. “The FSC has done the right thing by dropping them from its certification scheme. Những tham vọng
Tại những tuyến đường sắt bỏ hoang ở Campuchia, người dân địa phương đã tự sáng chế ra “xe lửa tre” chạy bằng hơi nước để di chuyển. Đó là hoàn cảnh của Campuchia hiện nay.

Theo chiến lược phát triển giao thông vận tải đường sắt đến năm 2020 đã được Thủ tướng Chính phủ phê duyệt, tuyến đường sắt Sài Gòn – Lộc Ninh sẽ được khôi phục và xây dựng lại. Đây cũng là một phần trong dự án đường sắt xuyên Á mà Chính phủ đã cam kết trong thỏa thuận chung ASEAN. Ông Hồ Văn Hữu, Giám đốc Sở Giao thông – vận tải cho biết: Nếu dự án hoàn thành, hiệu quả kinh tế mang lại rất lớn. Hàng triệu người dân Campuchia ngày 4/6 đi bỏ phiếu bầu cử tại nhiều xã, phường. Sau bầu cử địa phương, cuộc tổng tuyển cử tại Campuchia sẽ diễn ra vào tháng 7/2018 nhằm chọn ra đảng cầm quyền và thủ tướng.
Ủy ban Bầu cử Quốc gia Campuchia hôm nay công bố kết quả, cho thấy đảng Nhân dân Campuchia (CPP) của Thủ tướng Hun Sen thắng tại 1.156 trên tổng số 1.646 khu vực, AFP đưa tin. Đảng đối lập Cứu nguy Dân tộc Campuchia (CNRP) thắng tại 489 khu vực. Khu vực còn lại thuộc về một đảng thứ ba.
