He’s kind of a big deal. One of China’s top military officials, Gen. Fan Changlong, arrived in the United States on Monday for a weeklong trip that will culminate in the full red carpet treatment at the Pentagon.

But while Fan’s public welcome from Defense Secretary Ash Carter on Thursday may be warm, U.S. officials say that behind closed doors, the gloves are going to come off. Carter plans to again deliver the message that Washington doesn’t like the land reclamation efforts that China is undertaking in the South China Sea. TTO – Malaysia đã có sự thay đổi thái độ quan trọng khi ngày 8-6 tuyên bố sẽ phản đối những hoạt động xâm phạm của một tàu tuần duyên Trung Quốc vào lãnh hải nước này ở phía bắc Borneo.

(TNO) Trung Quốc chiếm bãi cạn Scarborough và tăng cường hoạt động xây dựng đảo nhân tạo trái phép trên Biển Đông đã cản trở hoạt động của ngư dân Philippines. Nhiều người đành phải neo tàu, gác lưới tìm công việc khác.

Trong nhiều năm qua, Biển Đông là nơi chia sẻ ngư trường của các ngư dân trong khu vực. Tàu cá các nước qua lại tấp nập, ngư dân dừng tàu chia sẻ với nhau những điếu thuốc hay khoai tây hoặc tán gẫu, theo bài viết trên tờ The Washington Post (Mỹ) ngày 6.6.

Lãnh đạo các nước công nghiệp G7 đã bày tỏ sự phản đối mạnh mẽ với việc Trung Quốc cải tạo ồ ạt các đảo nhằm thay đổi hiện trạng ở Biển Đông – Kyodo ngày 8.6 dẫn lời một quan chức Nhật cho biết.

Theo Phó chánh văn phòng Nội các Nhật Hiroshige Seko, tại hội nghị, Thủ tướng Nhật Shinzo Abe đã nhắc tới những hành động của Bắc Kinh ở Biển Đông và Biển Hoa Đông. EAF – The South China Sea dispute has become the new normal in ASEAN meetings. The dispute, with its overlapping claims on various land features in the South China Sea, has started to figure as the most important territorial disputes in Asia, one that risks becoming a major power confrontation in the region. With this in mind, ASEAN must take a collective stand on the South China Sea.

Vietnamese rescuers on mission to save a fisherman near Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands were threatened by Chinese vessels and asked to change their course Monday, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) said.

cogitasia – Philippine media went into a minor frenzy with the startling news that Manila purportedly offered Kuala Lumpur a quid pro quo in March: dropping the Philippine claim to North Borneo (Malaysia’s Sabah State) in exchange for Malaysian support for Manila’s arbitration case over the South China Sea. The media reports were quickly denied by the Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs, which noted the total absence of any reference to such a deal in the note that set off the firestorm. Recently, President Benigno Aquino III had to reiterate that his administration was not dropping the claim, prompting Malaysia to summon the Philippine Charge d’Affaires. Philippine President Benigno Aquino refused to pull his punches in Tokyo on Wednesday when he compared Beijing’s actions in the South China Sea to Nazi Germany’s demands for Czech territory in the 1930s.

MANILA — At the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on May 30, U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter stressed that the United States will continue to rebuff Chinese efforts to assert sovereignty in the South China Sea, largely by boosting military support to regional allies. Carter announced a proposal called the Southeast Asia Maritime Security Initiative, which would authorize up to $425 million for maritime capacity-building efforts in Southeast Asia.
