Vietnam’s greenhouse gas emissions are set to grow significantly by 2030, under an updated climate plan submitted to the UN.

The country’s large cement sector is factored into the plan for the first time, which experts welcomed. But they said the overall target was not substantially more ambitious than the previous version.

Under the new plan, Vietnam committed to cut its emissions growth by 9% or nearly 84 million tonnes of CO2 by 2030 compared with business as usual projections, using a 2014 baseline. Emissions are still expected to grow by 844 million tonnes of CO2 during that time.

Mekong Delta province declares state of emergency as waves erode embankment

With its coastal embankment threatened by collapse, Ca Mau Province is seeking urgent solutions to save residential areas and farmland.

The province entered a state of emergency Thursday to respond to any damage occurring as a three kilometer (1.86 miles) coastal embankment along its western coast nears the point of collapse due to wave impact.

Authorities have identified four sections as “especially threatened,” measuring 610 and 315 m each in U Minh District, and 1,900 m and 500 m each in Tran Van Thoi District.

“Those sections receive no forest protection. During extreme weather spells, waves would break directly against the embankment, putting it at great risk,” To Quoc Nam, deputy director of the province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said.

He confirmed the department is looking into investment projects to help counter the situation.

(TN&MT) – Ngày 24/7/2020, Thủ tướng Chính phủ đã phê duyệt Đóng góp do quốc gia tự quyết định (NDC) cập nhật của Việt Nam. Bằng nguồn lực trong nước, đến năm 2030 Việt Nam sẽ giảm 9% tổng lượng phát thải khí nhà kính so với Kịch bản phát triển thông thường (BAU) quốc gia, tương đương 83,9 triệu tấn CO2tđ.

Mức đóng góp 9% này có thể được tăng lên thành 27% so với BAU quốc gia (tương đương 250,8 triệu tấn CO2tđ) khi nhận được hỗ trợ quốc tế thông qua hợp tác song phương, đa phương và các cơ chế trong khuôn khổ Thỏa thuận Paris về biến đổi khí hậu. NDC cập nhật của Việt Nam xác định các biện pháp giảm nhẹ phát thải khí nhà kính giai đoạn 2021-2030 và các nhiệm vụ chiến lược về thích ứng với biến đổi khí hậu, các giải pháp thích ứng nhằm giảm thiểu thiệt hại do các tác động liên quan đến những thay đổi của khí hậu gây ra trong tương lai được xác định cụ thể cho từng lĩnh vực. Theo số liệu từ Ngân hàng Thế giới, hiện có 30 quốc gia/vùng lãnh thổ đã áp dụng thuế các bon và 31 quốc gia/vùng lãnh thổ áp dụng hệ thống trao đổi tín chỉ các bon (ETS). Việt Nam đang nghiên cứu lựa chọn công cụ định giá các bon phù hợp với điều kiện của quốc gia, làm cơ sở phát triển thị trường các bon trong nước và đảm bảo tuân thủ các cam kết quốc tế từ sau năm 2020.

For farming, the latest climate fix isn’t especially high tech or glossy. By spreading rock dust over large swatches of land, carbon dioxide could be trapped in transformed, scrubbing it from the atmosphere. The air is clean and fresh, fish have reappeared in urban waterways, birds are frequenting uncut gardens, wild mammals are meandering through cities and greenhouse gas emissions will likely drop by an unprecedented 8% this year. Nature has clearly benefited from several months of dramatically reduced economic activity. From a climate crisis perspective, this drop in emissions is astonishingly close to the 7.6% yearly reduction in emissions that scientists have advised will be necessary during the next decade. And yet none of this is cause for celebration.

Hạn mặn kéo dài thuận lợi cho việc làm muối tại Bạc Liêu. Lần đầu tiên sau nhiều năm, hạt muối Bạc Liêu vừa trúng mùa vừa được giá.

Trúng đậm mùa muối

Theo Sở Nông nghiệp và Phát triển nông thôn (NNPTNT) Bạc Liêu, vụ muối 2019-2020, diêm dân sản xuất 1.670ha muối (trong đó có hơn 72ha muối trải bạt), sản lượng ước đạt 50.000 tấn (trong đó có khoảng 4.700 tấn muối trắng).

Năm nay, nắng nóng hạn mặn kéo dài, nhiệt độ cao, là điều kiện tốt cho sản xuất muối. Giá muối đen được thương lái mua tại ruộng từ 800-900 đồng/kg, muối trắng từ 1.200-1.400 đồng/kg. Với giá này, diêm dân lãi 35-45 triệu đồng/ha. Tiếp tục đọc “Muối Bạc Liêu trúng mùa, giá cao” →

Hiện nay, Cà Mau đang bước vào cao điểm mùa khô. Nắng hạn gay gắt đã khiến cho nhiều diện tích đất sản xuất nông nghiệp bị ảnh hưởng, giảm năng suất, chất lượng, thu nhập của nông dân cũng sụt giảm. Tuy nhiên, tại xã Khánh An, huyện U Minh, mô hình trồng bồn bồn vẫn đang phát triển tốt, cho năng suất cao, mang về nguồn thu nhập ổn định cho người dân.

Bồn bồn là loại thực vật sống ở vùng ngập nước, phát triển rất tốt trên vùng đất U Minh.

Gia đình bà Lê Thị Chung ở Ấp 1, xã Khánh An là một trong những hộ tiên phong thực hiện mô hình trồng bồn bồn hơn 6 năm nay. Với diện tích 3 ha, mỗi tháng bà Chung thu hoạch từ 3,5-4 tấn bồn bồn, bán cho thương lái với giá từ 22.000-25.000 đồng/kg. Sau khi trừ chi phí, bà Chung còn thu nhập hơn 50 triệu đồng.
