NN – 04/04/2019, 09:20 (GMT+7) Chục năm trở lại đây, những dòng sông khắp các tỉnh miền núi phía Bắc: Sông Hồng, sông Chảy, ngòi Thia, ngòi Hút và các con suối Nậm Mu, Nậm Kim, Nậm Mả, Nậm Rạng…đang quằn quoại chết dần chết mòn vì thủy điện, khai thác cát sỏi và rác thải…

Sông Hồng đoạn từ ngã ba Việt Trì ngược lên Lào Cai mùa này cạn kiệt, nhiều đoạn người ta có thể xắn quần lội qua. Nhiều khúc sông các doi cát cao như núi do các tàu hút cát sỏi và đào vàng thải ra ngổn ngang những gò đống như vừa trải qua trận hủy diệt bằng bom B52.

TPO – Từ ngày 1/7, gần 50 người dân đã dựng lều, cản xe rác vào Khu liên hiệp xử lý chất thải Nam Sơn (Bãi rác Nam Sơn) khiến các quận nội thành có khả năng bị ngập trong rác. Đáng chú ý, thời điểm chặn xe rác đúng vào lúc huyện Sóc Sơn chi trả tiền bồi thường hỗ trợ người dân di dời.

Vietnam should strive for zero disposable plastic use in urban stores, markets and supermarkets by 2021, the PM says.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that plastic waste is a global problem. “Every year, the amount of plastic waste emitted by humans is enough to cover four times the surface area of the earth, including 13 million tons of plastic waste floating on the oceans.”

Less than two years after China banned most imports of scrap material from abroad, many of its neighbors are following suit. On May 28, 2019, Malaysia’s environment minister announced that the country was sending 3,000 metric tons of contaminated plastic wastes back to their countries of origin, including the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom. Along with the Philippines, which is sending 2,400 tons of illegally exported trash back to Canada, Malaysia’s stance highlights how controversial the global trade in plastic scrap has become. Ikea plans to use packaging made with mushrooms as an eco-friendly replacement for polystyrene, the Swedish retail giant has revealed.

The flat-pack furniture retailer is looking at using the biodegradable “fungi packaging” as part of its efforts to reduce waste and increase recycling, Joanna Yarrow, head of sustainability for Ikea in the UK said.

China has vowed to stop importing solid waste by 2020, while Vietnam is still fumbling for solutions to control scrap imports.

Chinese agencies on March 28 announced the country’s plan to cut solid waste imports to zero percent by 2020 with an aim of encouraging plants to treat the high amount of domestic waste.

The Earth Day Compostable Campaign to minimize the use of plastic bags and replace them with compostable bags made from corn starch has been officially launched on the occasion of Earth Hour by An Phat Holdings. It is estimated that dozens of tons of plastic bags will be replaced thanks to the campaign.

Supermarket, restaurant chains and residential areas in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are working with An Phat Holdings to minimize the use of plastic bags.

In the first phase of the campaign, BigC, Aeon, Intimex, Ls Place, Unik Mart, Seika, Teekiu, V + Hoa Binh and Nam An all joined together. For restaurants and café chains, Saint Honore stores and a number of others took part. For urban areas, the EcoSunday fair in Ecopark enthusiastically responded thanks to a shared common orientation: green development and environmental protection. The challenge encourages people to clean up littered places and post before-and-after pictures on social media.

The #trashtag challenge began gaining popularity on March 5, after a Facebook user shared a before-and-after photo of a messy area that had been cleaned in an unknown location.  Suốt nhiều năm, người dân xả thải bừa bãi ra bờ biển làm bãi cát đẹp trở thành nơi chứa rác thải, ô nhiễm nghiêm trọng.

Trên bãi biển ô nhiễm, những đứa trẻ ở thị trấn Phan Rí Cửa (huyện Tuy Phong, Bình Thuận) dùng rác làm đồ chơi, chạy nhảy trên cát đầy rẫy túi nylon và mảnh sành, thủy tinh.
