Nhắc đến Sơn Trà, các phương tiện truyền thông, cả “lề phải” lẫn “lề trái”, đều nhất mực ngợi ca Voọc chà vá chân nâu và chùa Linh Ứng bãi Bụt. Trên truyền thông chưa thấy ai đề cập đến sự tương phản của hai “điểm nhấn” đó.

Chúng tôi không mô tả về Chà vá chân nâu, vì người ta đã viết rất kỹ và chụp hình, quay phim rất rõ về loài động vật đặc biệt quý hiếm đang xếp vào danh mục cực kỳ nguy cấp này. Bạn đọc có thể dễ dàng tìm đọc và chiêm ngưỡng chúng trên mạng với đủ kiểu, đủ dáng, đủ mọi góc nhìn, góc chụp, góc quay.

Chỉ xin lưu ý là chúng chỉ ăn lá và hoa quả của những loài cây đặc hữu, là những loài cây chỉ có ở Sơn Trà, chỉ hít thở và sinh con đẻ cái trong hệ sinh thái của rừng nguyên sinh nơi đây. Chúng không ăn rặt một vài thứ như những con vật mà chúng ta nuôi, mà mùa nào, giờ nào chúng ăn những thứ gì trong những loài cây đặc hữu đó chúng ta không biết, không thể biết và không cần phải biết.

Over the past few years, a group of veterinary engineers and volunteers have been devoted to the rescue and care of animals, particularly the endangered red-shanked doucs, found on Son Tra Peninsula in the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang.

GreenViet, a Vietnamese animal rights group founded in 2012, has been conducting research and raising people’s awareness of the biodiversity in the central region and the Central Highlands, particularly in conserving the red-shanked douc population on Son Tra.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian authorities have seized about US$3.1 million (£2.5 million) worth of rhinoceros horns flown in from Mozambique via Qatar, the latest seizure in Asia of products from endangered species to feed demand for traditional remedies, officials said on Monday.

HÀ NỘI — The country’s wild bear population has declined sharply over the past 20 years, according to recent surveys carried out in 22 protected areas.

A Japanese whaling fleet returned to port on Friday after an annual Antarctic hunt that killed more than 300 of the mammals, as Tokyo pursues the programme in defiance of global criticism.

The fleet set sail for the Southern Ocean in November, with plans to slaughter 333 minke whales, flouting a worldwide moratorium and opposition led by Australia and New Zealand.

The fleet consisted of five ships, three of which arrived on Friday morning at Shimonoseki port in western Japan, the country’s Fisheries Agency said.

More than 200 people, including crew members and their families, gathered in the rain for a 30-minute ceremony in front of the Nisshin Maru, the fleet’s main ship, according to an official of the Shimonoseki city government. BÌNH THUẬN — The southern central province of Bình Thuận has issued a temporary ban on the exploitation of molluscs and bivalves across its sea waters as part of an effort to protect and regenerate dwindling marine resources.

The critically endangered Indochinese tiger has been found to be breeding in a Thai jungle, providing hope for a subspecies whose total population may number only a couple of hundred.

Conservation authorities in Thailand, along with two international wildlife organisations, released photographs of new tiger cubs in the country’s east.

Viet Nam News ĐỒNG NAI — Wild elephant habitats in the southern province of  Đồng Nai are being reduced and degraded, leading to a lack of food and more conflicts between animals and humans, according to local authorities.

Experts say the elephant requires a vast habitat but its living space has been shrunk due to human encroachment into the forest. HONG KONG — Long celebrated as China’s largest freshwater lake, Poyang reaches more than three times the expanse of Los Angeles in the summer wet season. It is home to the rare Yangtze finless porpoise, and its mud flats are the primary winter feeding grounds for thousands of birds that fly south each autumn to escape Siberia’s chill, including the critically endangered Siberian crane.

Now it is Poyang itself that is at risk.

New births bring hope for Mekong dolphins in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH – Conservation group WWF announced Tuesday that 10 new Irrawaddy dolphin calves were sighted this year in the section of Mekong River that runs through Cambodia, raising hope of saving the species from local extinction.

It said the birth of the calves — seven in Kratie province and three in Stung Treng province — are a “great encouragement and reward” of its decade-long collaborative efforts with Cambodia’s Fisheries Administration to protect the critically endangered species.
