Thế giới chuyển dần đến 100% năng lượng tái tạo – điện, sưởi ấm – làm mát và giao thông vận tải

English: World Moves Toward 100 Percent Renewable Energy– First Electricity, Then Heating/Cooling, and Finally Transportation

Ngày càng nhiều đô thị, thành phố, tiểu bang và thậm chí toàn bộ quốc gia thiết lập mục tiêu 100% năng lượng tái tạo, trong đó chính sách hỗ trợ đóng vai trò rất quan trọng cho sự thành công này.

July 31, 2015 By Junko Movellan, Correspondent.

Patrolling international skies: Understanding joint air patrols

In examining recent suggestions for joint patrolling of the South China Sea, analysts have tended to focus on the surface vessels of various nations’ coast guards and navies. Yet the flight of a U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon hosting a CNN film crew over disputed waters in the South China Sea in May highlighted the potential of air power – specifically maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) – in executing the possible missions of joint patrols. To explore the potential effectiveness of South China Sea joint air patrols it is important to first be clear about the often overlooked distinctions in missions, locations, and concepts. Japan’s Long-term Energy Plan Shoots for Ultimate Balance in Economics, Environment and Safety

July 9, 2015

What is 3E + S? It is neither a mathematics problem nor chemical equation. It is Japan’s latest long-term energy plan, which was released by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) on June 1stf for review. The draft plan aims to establish an optimum energy mix by the year 2030.

The three Es stand for the first letters in Energy Security, Economic Efficiency and Environment and the letter S stands for Safety. Safety is crucial to the energy plan in the wake of the world’s worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl when the devastating tsunami and earthquake hit northeast Japan in 2011. Since the disasters, Japan’s electricity generation mix has drastically changed. Tiếp tục đọc “Japan’s Long-term Energy Plan Shoots for Ultimate Balance in Economics, Environment and Safety”

CSIS: Countering China’s Gradual Creation of a Fait Accompli in the South China Sea

Countering China’s Gradual Creation of a Fait Accompli in the South China Sea:
Providing Civilian Air Patrol Capability by Utilizing the U.S.-Japan Alliance

Hiroshi Waguri

Increased tensions over China’s maritime sovereignty claims in the Western Pacific pose a challenge for the international system. A confrontation between China and Japan in the East China Sea continues mainly between Japan’s national coast guard ships and China’s government and civilian fishery vessels, but it seems to have reached a kind of moderate stalemate as the two governments have resumed working-level talks aimed at establishing a maritime communication mechanism between Japan and China. While the situation bears watching, U.S. statements reiterating that Article V of the U.S.-Japan Security Treaty, which obligates the United States to defend Japan, applies to the Senkaku islands, as well as the continuous presence of Japan’s coast guard and Maritime Self-Defense Forces around the islands, must have played a major role in achieving the current relative stability. China pushes ahead with high risk, high cost nuclear

Paul Dorfman 20.05.2015

Nuclear power has had a makeover. What was once seen as a futuristic source of limitless energy has been reframed as a response to global warming, an ideal solution for countries looking for a continuous source of low-carbon power. But who are these countries? Tiếp tục đọc “China pushes ahead with high risk, high cost nuclear”

Growing Maritime Security Concerns in Southeast Asia: A Greater Need for Further Regional Cooperation

The United States, Japan and Vietnam stand a lot to gain from expanding their strategic partnerships to battle regional maritime challenges.

Hoang Anh Tuan – Nguyen Vu Tung
June 19, 2015

The National Interest – Cooperation between Japan, the United States, and Vietnam has been improving dramatically over the last several years—a reflection of both the changing strategic environment in the region, as well as a deepening sense of trust among the three countries.

Recent events—especially when one examines specific instances of warming bilateral ties with Vietnam—demonstrate how far relations have come. For example, during U.S. secretary of defense Ashton Carter’s recent visit to Vietnam from May 31 to June 1, 2015, he and his Vietnamese counterpart, Gen. Phung Quang Thanh, signed a Joint Vision Statement on Defense Relations—a remarkable development in the defense ties between the two nations, as relations were only normalized just twenty years ago. Australia Has a Larger Role to Play in the South China Sea

by  • June 4, 2015

Both the tone and substance of South China Sea discussions in Australian policy circles has undergone an important shift in recent months. What was previously a second-tier security concern to be watched closely and engaged diplomatically, but at a safe distance, has become a heated discussion about concrete responses. Australian policymakers are as concerned as anyone about China’s breakneck land reclamation in the Spratly Islands and the threats, both legal and military, they pose to the global commons. Australian officials and thinkers are seriously considering options to contest Chinese assertiveness, in tandem with the United States and other partners, which would have seemed distant possibilities a year ago.
