HANOI, Dec 8 (Reuters) – Japan has dropped out of plans to build a major nuclear power plant in Vietnam because the time frame is too tight, Japanese ambassador Naoki Ito told Reuters, potentially complicating Vietnam’s long-term strategy to avoid new power shortages.
Vietnam, home to large manufacturing operations for multinationals including Samsung and Apple, has faced major power blackouts as demand from its huge industrial sector and expanding middle class often outpaces supplies, strained by increasingly frequent extreme weather, such as droughts and typhoons.

“The Japanese side is not in a position to implement the Ninh Thuan 2 project,” the ambassador to Vietnam said, referring to a plant with a planned capacity of 2 to 3.2 gigawatts. The project is part of Vietnam’s strategy to boost power generation capacity.

At the invitation of Japan, H.E. Mr. Vo Van Thuong, President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, and Madam Phan Thi Thanh Tam made an official visit to Japan from 27 to 30 November 2023. During the visit, Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress meet with and host a court luncheon in honor of President Vo Van Thuong and Madam. H.E. Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, and President Vo Van Thuong attended the ceremony by Guard of Honor, held the summit meeting, attended the joint press conference, and witnessed the signing ceremony of cooperation documents. President Vo Van Thuong also delivered his policy speech at the National Diet of Japan and visited Fukuoka Prefecture.
The visit by President Vo Van Thuong and Madam took place as numerous activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations (established on 21 September 1973) were being coordinated between Japan and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. Building on the outstanding achievements of the bilateral ties across all areas over the past 50 years, given the great potential for cooperation, with the firm belief in the bright future of the bilateral relations, and with the aim of meeting the demand of the peoples of the two countries, President Vo Van Thuong and Prime Minister Kishida confirmed to adopt the Joint Statement on the Elevation of the Japan-Viet Nam relations to a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World” at the summit meeting on 27 November 2023, thereby affirming both countries’ endeavors to bring the current cooperation between the two countries in all areas to new heights and to further expand it to new fronts.

The United States Department of Defense expressed its desire to send experts to Vietnam to help the Southeast Asian country conduct bomb and mine detection and clearance work, while Japan might donate special equipment worth over VND93 billion (US$4 million) to Vietnam.
Colonel Nguyen Hanh Phuc, deputy general director of the Vietnam National Mine Action Center, made this announcement at a press briefing on tackling post-war bomb and mine consequences in Hanoi on Tuesday.

Khoảng năm 1998, ở Đồng Nai có chiến dịch kiểm tra lý lịch của nhân viên ở Khu công nghiệp Biên Hòa 2. Nhiều công nhân, nhân viên văn phòng các công ty Nhật Bản bị phát hiện làm giả chứng minh nhân dân, khai man tên tuổi và bằng cấp. Nguy cơ bị đuổi việc là hiển hiện theo quy định của pháp luật và nội quy công ty.
Nhiều người phải xin nghỉ phép để về quê hoàn thành các giấy tờ nhân thân và chứng minh bằng cấp. Người viết nằm trong trường hợp đấy. Khi lên xin phép cấp trưởng phòng người Nhật thì nhận được câu trả lời: quy định của pháp luật thì nên làm đúng, còn bằng cấp thì sau chừng đấy thời gian làm việc, ông không quan tâm nhân viên thực sự có tốt nghiệp đại học hay chưa, và nếu chưa có thì ông có thể nói giúp phòng nhân sự là bỏ qua việc phải đáp ứng yêu cầu đấy.

Sử liệu chính thống về nạn đói năm 1945 ghi nhận đầy đủ nhất có thể những sự kiện, nhân chứng, số liệu của thảm họa khủng khiếp năm Ất Dậu có lẽ là công trình nghiên cứu của nhà sử học, giáo sư Văn Tạo (nguyên viện trưởng Viện Sử học Việt Nam) và giáo sư Furuta Motoo (Trường đại học Tokyo) cùng các cộng sự người Nhật: Nạn đói năm 1945 ở Việt Nam – Những chứng tích lịch sử. Công trình nghiên cứu – khảo sát thực địa ở 23 điểm thuộc 21 tỉnh, thành phố từ Quảng Trị trở ra Bắc từ năm 1992-1995, được công bố vào đầu những năm 2000.

Dù được làm trong một công ty xây dựng ở tỉnh Fukushima nhưng thay vì xử lý cốt thép và tạo khuôn đóng bê tông, người này chủ yếu của dọn dẹp hậu quả còn sót lại từ sự cố hạt nhân tại Nhà máy Fukushima số 1, thuộc sở hữu của Tập đoàn Điện lực Tokyo.

Xưa nay, người dân vùng biển Cửa Việt chỉ có một nghề duy nhất là đánh cá trên biển quê hương. Nhà nào có điều kiện thì đóng tàu to rồi kêu trai bạn trong làng cùng đi biển. Sản phẩm thu về sẽ chia theo hình thức chủ tàu 6 phần, 4 phần còn lại chia đều cho số lao động trên tàu.

HÀ NỘI — Ship Fuyuzuki of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force docked at Cam Ranh International Port in the south central province of Khánh Hòa yesterday, starting a five-day visit to Việt Nam.
The crewmember will visit leaders of the provincial People’s Committee, Commander of Naval Zone 4 and ships of the Vietnam People’s Navy. They will have sport exchange with officers and soldiers of Naval Zone 4.
The visit takes place in the context that relations between the two countries in general and defence ties in particular are growing. — VNS

TOKYO: A Vietnamese man held in a Japanese immigration detention centre died on Saturday, six people told Reuters, drawing fresh attention to conditions in the country’s detention system.

HANOI: Japan’s emperor arrived in Vietnam on Tuesday (Feb 28) for a whirlwind tour that will include a meeting with families of Japanese soldiers who stayed there after World War II.
The emperor and empress were received by Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh and guards of honour at the Hanoi airport, where national flags were displayed.
