Vietnam chemical giant calls for gov’t help with $125mn Chinese loan

When its fertilizer plant funded by Chinese bank loans was bogged down by losses, state-run Vietnamese chemical giant Vinachem immediately turned to the government for help, instead of seeking solutions to revitalize the loss-making project.
In 2007, Vinachem closed a US$250 million loan deal, mature in 15 years, with China Eximbank to finance the construction of its nitrogenous fertilizer plant in the northern province of Ninh Binh.

Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — Mỹ Đức District Police in Hà Nội on Tuesday announced they were prosecuting 14 former officials of the district and of Đồng Tâm Commune.
The officials were allegedly involved in land violations in the commune.

Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — The Government’s goal to extract another one million tonnes of crude oil by December to meet its economic growth target is challenging, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Association (VOGA) said.

Vinamilk named Vietnam’s most valuable firm

Dairy giant Vinamilk has been named the most valuable company in Vietnam for the second year in a row by Forbes Vietnam.
Forbes Vietnam and Viet Capital Securities Company on Monday announced their list of the 40 most valuable firms in Vietnam, which were collectively valued at over US$5.4 billion, an increase of 20 percent on last year.

(TBKTSG) – Những thảo luận công khai và cởi mở xung quanh câu chuyện đất sân golf ở sân bay Tân Sơn Nhất đã gợi mở đến những vấn đề chính sách cốt lõi: đất quốc phòng nói riêng, và chủ trương quân đội có nên làm kinh tế hay không nói chung.
Phát biểu gần đây nhất của Thứ trưởng Bộ Quốc phòng Lê Chiêm được báo chí trích dẫn rằng quân đội sẽ không làm kinh tế để tập trung vào phát triển nền quốc phòng chuyên nghiệp và hiện đại, đã nhận được sự ủng hộ rộng rãi. Tập trung vào nhiệm vụ cốt lõi – bảo vệ Tổ quốc – không chỉ làm quân đội mạnh lên, khu vực kinh tế dân doanh trong nước rõ ràng cũng được hưởng lợi. Chủ trương trên của Chính phủ là hoàn toàn đúng đắn, nhưng giải bài toán “dân sự hóa” doanh nghiệp quốc phòng, để một mặt nguồn lực và khối tài sản khổng lồ này phát huy được hiệu quả, đồng thời tránh thất thoát tài sản nhà nước, là vấn đề lớn cần tiếp tục được thảo luận rộng rãi. US initiates anti-dumping investigation on VN’s polyester
The US Department of Commerce (DOC) last week announced the initiation of anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations on the import of fine denier polyester staple fibre from China, India, Republic of Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam.
Last year, Viet Nam shipped around US$12.4 million of polyester staple fibre to the US, ranking third behind China (US$79.4 million) and India (US$14.7 million).
These investigations are based on petitions filed by DAK Americas LLC; Nan Ya Plastics Corporation, America; and Auriga Polymers on May 31, 2017.
They allege that polyester staple fibre products are being shipped to the United States at prices lower than their normal value. In addition, dumping has caused significant damage to the domestic industry due to price depression.
The scope of these investigations covers fine denier polyester staple fibre, not carded or combed, measuring less than 3.3 decitex in diameter, coded HS: 5503.20.0025.
The alleged dumping margin for Viet Nam’s product is 64.73 per cent.
In 2016, imports of fine denier polyester staple fibre from Viet Nam were valued at an estimated US$12.4 million, ranking third behind China (US$79.4 million) and India (US$14.7 million).
The US International Trade Commission (ITC) is scheduled to make its preliminary injury determinations on or before July 17, 2017.
If the ITC determines that there is reasonable indication that imports of fine denier polyester staple fibre from mainland China, India, South Korea, Taiwan and Viet Nam materially injure or threaten material injury to the domestic industry in the United States, the investigations will continue, and the DOC will announce its preliminary countervailing determination in August and its preliminary anti-dumping determination in November this year.

Ho Chi Minh City to open maiden river bus route in August

Ho Chi Minh City is expected to operate its first-ever river bus route this August to help relieve the increasing traffic pressure on local streets.
After nearly eight years of preparation, the river bus route No.1 is set to connect Bach Dang Port in District 1 with Linh Dong Ward in Thu Duc District.
