Two researchers from Vietnam and the UK have been awarded the prestigious Newton Prize for a project that facilitates communicating in the event of disasters.

Lead researchers Dr. Vo Nguyen Son from Vietnam’s Duy Tan University and his UK-based counterpart Dr. Trung Duong from Queen’s University Belfast won the £200,000 (US$265,000) prize for their jointly designed communications system that can work even when extreme weather and natural disasters strike. Mới có 3 cơn bão từ đầu năm tới giờ mà thông tin từ Trung tâm Dự báo Khí tượng thủy văn “về cơ bản” là… sai cả 3! Hà Nội chiều 19.8 hứng bão bất ngờ, may mà dân tự lo thân nên không nhiều tổn thất. Biết rằng, dự báo thì cũng chỉ là… dự báo, nhưng trước mỗi cơn bão, người dân cứ phải đắn đo xem ông “dự” có chuẩn xác không thì người làm công tác dự báo phải hoàn thiện chính mình!
