BEIJING, China – Beijing Thursday, May 3, reasserted its right to build “defense” facilities in the disputed South China Sea, but declined to confirm reports it had installed new missiles on artificial islands it has built in the region.

Hanoi’s hopes of a hydrocarbon boost to its stretched government budget have been dashed. And the culprit is Vietnam’s ‘good neighbour, good comrade and good friend’ to the north.

The project, many years in the making, was a joint venture between Repsol of Spain, Mubadala of Abu Dhabi and the state-owned energy company PetroVietnam. Commercial drilling was due to begin this April and oil and gas were expected to flow for at least 10 years. A specialised platform built in the port of Vung Tau lies idle, as do the contracted drilling rig and storage tanker. TTO – Khánh thành Nhà trưng bày Hoàng Sa sáng nay, thực ra chúng ta cũng chỉ mới đi một nửa đoạn đường. Đấu tranh đòi lại chủ quyền đối với quần đảo Hoàng Sa là con đường phía trước còn rất dài.

Sáng 28-3, UBND TP Đà Nẵng đã tổ chức khánh thành Nhà trưng bày Hoàng Sa nằm trên đường Hoàng Sa (quận Sơn Trà, Đà Nẵng). Buổi lễ khánh thành đặc biệt và giàu ý nghĩa này đã thu hút đông đảo các tầng lớp nhân dân tham gia.

Tại buổi lễ nhiều người có cùng suy nghĩ rằng: Khánh thành Nhà trưng bày Hoàng Sa sáng nay, thực ra chúng ta cũng chỉ mới đi một nửa đoạn đường.

Đấu tranh đòi lại chủ quyền đối với quần đảo Hoàng Sa là con đường phía trước còn rất dài mà mọi thế hệ người Việt sau này phải tiếp nối, có trách nhiệm khi một phần lãnh thổ thiêng liêng của Tổ quốc đang bị Trung Quốc chiếm đóng trái phép. DANANG, Vietnam: As the USS Carl Vinson docks at Danang port today (Mar 5) – the first time a United States navy aircraft carrier is visiting Vietnam in 40 years since the end of the Vietnam War – it will mark a further step in closer cooperation between the two nations, said a navy spokesperson.

Vietnam has mentioned the situation in the East Vietnam Sea during a special meeting between ASEAN officials in Singapore this week.

The ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) Retreat was organized in the city-state on Tuesday, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

TT – Năm 2017 tiếp tục chứng kiến một xu hướng đã kéo dài trong nhiều năm qua: Không những chiến tranh, xung đột chưa có dấu hiệu sớm kết thúc, thế giới ngày càng phát sinh nhiều điểm nóng và nguy cơ về an ninh. 

Tổ chức học giả Hội đồng Quan hệ quốc tế (CFR) của Mỹ vừa công bố một danh sách những nguy cơ toàn cầu hàng đầu cần phải theo dõi trong năm 2018 sau khi tham khảo ý kiến của các chuyên gia hàng đầu.

Từ danh sách 30 cuộc xung đột và nguy cơ xung đột hiện hữu, họ chọn ra 8 mối nguy hiểm lớn nhất trong năm 2018 dựa trên khả năng leo thang hoặc bùng nổ của chúng.

Trong hai ngày 10-11/01/2018, hội nghị thượng đỉnh cơ chế Hợp Tác Lan Thương – Mêkông lần thứ 2 sẽ mở ra tại Phnom Penh, thủ đô Cam Bốt. A recent Chinese report hailed progress in the South China Sea last year, noting construction totalling 290,000 square metres, or 72 acres.     • More than half the fishing vessel in the world operate in the South China Sea, where sovereign rights have been an object of fierce contention among bordering countries.
    • Scientists have been warning that the sea is fast becoming the site of an environmental disaster, the impending collapse of one of the world’s most productive fisheries.
    • Now a group of experts that includes geopolitical strategists as well as marine biologists is calling on the disputing parties to come together to manage and protect the sea’s fish stocks and marine environment.
    • Effective management hinges on China’s active participation, but it remains unclear whether that country, now the dominant power in the sea with a big appetite for seafood, will cooperate.
