Vào ngày 12/9/2019 vừa qua, Tổ chức Động vật Châu Á đã gửi Thư ngỏ tới 86 trường học kêu gọi không ủng hộ xiếc động vật (xiếc thú). Thư ngỏ được Tiến sĩ Tuấn Bendixsen, Trưởng đại diện của Tổ chức tại Việt Nam ký, gửi tới các trường Tiểu học và Trung học cơ sở chất lương cao, trường chuyên, và trường quốc tế – những trường học có tư tưởng, đường lối giáo dục học sinh tiên tiến – tại các thành phố lớn gồm Hà Nội, Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh, Đà Nẵng, Nha Trang. Đây cũng là những thành phố có các rạp xiếc, và các khu du lịch đang sử dụng động vật cho tiết mục xiếc thú.   • “Be Their Bodhisattva,” a striking anti-wildlife trafficking campaign, was organized in Vietnam from Jan. 25 to March 25 this year.
  • The campaign caught the attention of both the public and prominent national media outlets.
  • However, record-breaking seizures of wildlife parts destined for Vietnam in the months since demonstrate the breadth and depth of the problem.

Indonesian travelling shows where dolphins perform in the name of education

More than 90 dolphins are held in captivity in Indonesia and trained to perform tricks in shows as part of the country’s so-called conservation efforts. Their future is uncertain as the government continues experimenting with a captive breeding programme to increase dolphin population in its waters.

 
Indonesia is believed to be the only country in the world that still uses dolphins in travelling animal shows. Most of them perform more than 30 times a week and travel from city to city in the back of a truck. (Photo: Pichayada Promchertchoo)
