These three people were military tech experts. One a top radar scientist, one a top missile guidance specialist, and one a nuclear weapons engineer. And there is an ongoing purge in China’s defense industry.
Anyone remembers how Western media, politicians and NGO activists created a hoohah about the athlete Peng Shuai a few years back?
China does not do Peng Shuai stunts. As Little Lazy points out, the more important somebody is, the more quietly any case involving this person will be dealt with.
For instance, radar scientist Wu Manqing’s case actually started eighteen months ago. According to Chinese website Caixin (the equivalent of Bloomberg), Wu was removed from his position, and taken away by authorities in October 2024. There was no public comment. Even the initial report was deleted from Caixin’s website.
The fact that Wu’s name has vanished from the academy roster means that a final decision has been made. Wu is guilty.
Corruption in China became very bad under the past few Chinese leaders. Xi Jinping has spent over ten years clearing up this corruption. And as Little Lazy points out, China does not operate on the assumption that Westerners don’t know about Chinese weaknesses. Nope. With so many corrupt people in high places, surely a lot of sensitive information would have been leaked over the years.
Wu played an important role in developing China’s Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft, the KJ-500. This is what the US expects to fight when facing guided missiles.
The world is getting more and more dangerous.
While the US is lurching from war to war, setting fires everywhere, China is quietly eliminating its internal weaknesses.
