How do the Koreans view the Vietnamese?

I’m Korean and I recently got interested in Vietnam through director Park Hang-seo.

Vietnam is a very attractive country. Particularly attractive thing is that they defeated the Yuan Dynasty, China and the USA. This is something that is always mentioned in the video and textbook introducing Vietnam in Korea.

I know that they are doing their best to acquire their own technology, recently establishing VINFAST and launching cars. They also performed well at the Mathematical Olympiad and also won the Fields Medal. They also get a high score in the PISA test. Their enthusiasm for soccer is very similar to the way Koreans cheered their country in 2002.

I have never been to Vietnam, and my understanding of Vietnam is superficial. But I’m still impressed by them. I wanted Vietnam and Korea to be close friends. Vietnam ranks third among Korean exporters country and is very important for the Korean economy.

However, Koreans’ understanding of Vietnam is too one-dimensional. For example, some disgusting YouTubers say that Korea is giving Vietnam a one-sided benefit and Vietnam ignores it. They spread cheap hatred with no understanding that Vietnam is a valuable buyer country for South Korean goods. (I am angry as I write this).

In the meantime, Korea’s eyes were too focused on Japan and China. Relations with Vietnam have progressed rapidly in recent years. We didn’t have time to seriously analyze Vietnam and come up with long-term cooperation plans. If the Koreans had shown a little more active friendship, the relationship between the two countries would have been very close. Director Park Hang-seo, Samsung, and Korean products, etc., korea clearly had a medium through which the two countries could be friendly.

Seeing the Vietnamese answer to this question, I also felt sad. It seems that antipathy towards Korea is quite widespread among Vietnamese. China insists on the 9-dangling line and is trying to seize control of the South China Sea. The volume of traffic entering Korea and Japan through the South China Sea and the Strait of Malacca is considerable. China’s desire is that Japan and Korea will naturally submit to them when the navy of china takes control of this place. As far as I know, Vietnam is the only country that has decided to fight China in the South China Sea.

I think Korea really needs to build friendly relations with Vietnam. If there is a Korean who ignores Vietnam, it just shows that he is an ignorant person and a frog in a well. If he finds out that Vietnam’s history is very similar to that of Korea, he’ll be as impressed as I am. And there are certainly many Koreans who have the same thoughts as me.
