An estimated 39.5 million people globally suffer from drug-use disorders — with a growing number hooked on synthetic drugs that are cheaper, more accessible, and far more lethal. We investigate the impacts of this synthetic curse, beginning in Karachi, where millions of young Pakistanis are caught in a deadly spiral of addiction and crime.
Our team embeds with Karachi Police on a drug raid. We then traverse Thailand to investigate how the authorities are working to contain cross border trafficking. Synthetic pills, produced in Myanmar, are flooding Thailand, wreaking havoc on Thai society. In British Columbia, Canada, we discover the impact of decriminalization: More than 50,000 Canadians have died from fentanyl overdoses. The drug, which can be produced in home labs, is fueling a crime wave and a health crisis.
Many societies are grappling with a growing drug epidemic. We uncover how meth produced in Myanmar has fueled a multi-million-dollar trade — and how a combination of law enforcement, cutting-edge technology, and grassroots activism is rising to confront it. But will these efforts be enough to break the grip of synthetic drugs before it’s too late?

Destructive Cocaine And Fentanyl: Unraveling The Harrowing Impact On Lives | Addicted – Ep 2/3

Cocaine and other traditional drugs are increasingly laced with fentanyl, driving a deadly surge in addiction and leaving a trail of death and devastation.
We begin our investigation in Colombia’s Catatumbo region. Here, drug cartels run a murderous campaign to control cocaine trafficking routes. Drug wars in the region have rendered more than 50,000 farmers homeless. We then travel to Belgium’s Antwerp Port, now dubbed the cocaine capital of Europe.
Here, we examine the profound challenges enforcement authorities face in trying to curb cocaine trafficking. We then meet Swedish and Dutch gang members recruiting children to fight turf wars between competing drug cartels, devastating once peaceful communities in Europe. Our final stop is the United States. In Philadelphia’s open outdoor drug markets, addicts score hits of deadly fentanyl and other synthetic drugs. The scourge of drugs is causing a healthcare crisis in the city.

The Cannabis Trap: Why Youths Are Falling For It | Addicted – Ep 3/3

Cannabis use is becoming increasingly widespread and socially accepted worldwide. Yet, experts and former addicts expose the serious harm it can cause.
The Cannabis Trap uncovers the hidden toll of youth cannabis use — from addiction and psychosis to fractured families, lasting mental health damage, and even consequences for the next generation. In Singapore, authorities are witnessing a worrying rise of cannabis use among teenagers and young adults, driven by misinformation and a glamourisation of the drug in social media and popular culture. In this documentary, we follow CNB officers on drug raids, hear powerful testimonies from recovering addicts, and examine how cannabis liberalisation in neighbouring countries like Thailand is shaping youth perceptions and behaviours in Singapore.
Experts reveal how today’s cannabis blends are more potent and dangerous than ever — and why early exposure can cause life-altering consequences. Meanwhile, survivors, counselors, and community groups are fighting an uphill battle to protect vulnerable youth and correct misperceptions. Through raw access, real voices, and critical insights, The Cannabis Trap uncovers the uncomfortable truth: cannabis isn’t as harmless as many are led to believe — and the stakes are far higher than most would imagine.
