China deploys 8 vessels, 2 helicopters to search for Vietnam’s missing plane

China has sent eight ships and two helicopterss to help Vietnam find a CASA coast guard plane that crashed with nine people aboard while looking for the missing Su-30 fighter jet and pilot.

The Chinese forces are searching on China’s territory, south east of Vietnam’s Bach Long Vy Island and east of the delimitation of the Gulf of Tonkin between Vietnam and China.

China has already deployed a big rescue ship, the NANHAIJIU 101, to help with the search.

It’s been a double loss for Vietnam’s Air Defense in one week. On June 14, the Su-30MK2 Vietnamese fighter crashed offshore the central province of Nghe An. Out of two pilots on board, only one made it alive. Two days later, a CASA-212-40 with nine people on board went missing while searching for the Su-30MK2.

Q: According to Vietnamese media reports, a Vietnamese air force Su-30 plane went missing over the Beibu Gulf on June 14 with one pilot on board. Vietnam then sent a coast guard search and rescue aircraft which also went missing on June 16 with 9 search and rescue personnel on board. Officials from the Vietnamese defense ministry notified this to the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, and asked China for help in the search process and to provide convenience for Vietnamese planes and vessels on the search operation.
