NNSau 60 năm hình thành và phát triển, Vườn Quốc gia Cúc Phương đã có những chương trình cứu hộ, bảo tồn, giáo dục về môi trường vươn đến tầm châu lục, thế giới.

Là vườn quốc gia đầu tiên của Việt Nam, ra đời vào năm 1962, đến nay Cúc Phương vẫn là vườn quốc gia đứng đầu cả nước về công tác bảo tồn đa dạng sinh học. Với hệ giá trị đặc biệt, từ địa chất địa mạo, cổ sinh học, lâm sinh, cảnh quan và văn hóa bản địa, Cúc Phương được so sánh ngang hàng với những khu rừng nhiệt đới hàng đầu thế giới.

A bright morning and the sun sends fragile rays through layers of leaves in Cuc Phuong National Park in the northern province of Ninh Binh.

The twittering of birds and chattering monkeys is a natural alarm for staff at the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre (EPRC).

Two attendants slowly walk on the path between the trees and cages of primates that need special cares. They talk about the monkeys they put geographical positioning rings on yesterday. They will release them back into the wild in few days.

Illegal logging destroying Cuc Phuong National Park

Illegal logging is rampant at Cuc Phuong National Park despite “the best” efforts of forest rangers.

Cuc Phuong National Park spreads across three northern provinces of Ninh Binh, Hoa Binh and Thanh Hoa, covering over 22,000 hectares. It is the first national park in Vietnam, is rich in biodiversity and home to many endangered animals.

However, in the past months, parts of the park in Thanh Yen Commune, Thanh Hoa Province have been destroyed by illegal loggers. Near the forest edge, huge trees were chopped down and next to them is a timber cutting site. The loggers chose random locations that are hundreds of metres away from each other to take down the trees in order to avoid the forest rangers. HÀ NỘI – Save Vietnam’s Wildlife (SVW) and Cúc Phương National Park have successfully released 53 Java pangolins (Manis javanica) to the wild.The animals were released on Saturday night, bringing the number of pangolins returned to their natural habit within a week to 93 — the largest pangolin release in Việt Nam, the SVW said.
