Vietnam’s Party chief Trong presented as presidential candidate

The Party’s Central Committee has nominated General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to be the country’s next president.

The committee voted on Wednesday to introduce Trong as a candidate for the head of state post to Vietnam’s legislative National Assembly, which will be in sesssion between October 21 and November 19. HANOI (Reuters) – Police in Vietnam have arrested seven people over the “terrorist” bombing of a police station in Ho Chi Minh City last month that injured three people, police said on Thursday.

The incident, in which two small explosive devices were detonated, followed protests by thousands of people in several cities against government plans to lease new economic zones to foreign investors.
