Vietnam needs up to US$10.2 billion to invest in new water supply and sewerage projects to meet increasing clean water demand, which will approximate 10 million cubic meters a day by 2020.

According to Technical Infrastructure Bureau under the Ministry of Construction, Vietnam now has nearly 800 urban areas with clean water supply capacity totaling 7.4 million cubic meters a day, up 1.6 times over ten years ago.

By 2020, the number of urban residents is forecast to reach 44 million people and clean water demand will increase to 9.6-10 million cubic meters a day.

So the country needs $3.3 billion to build new water plants and improve the existing water supply systems and other works. In the first weeks of 2018 there were (for me) unexpected announcements from both the EU and the UK Government on the urgent global issue of ocean plastic pollution. The EU intends to make all plastic packaging on the European market recyclable by 2030 and in her speech announcing the UK’s 25 Year Environment Plan, Prime Minister Theresa May committed the UK to eliminating all “avoidable plastic waste” by 2042. The Prime Minister also said it would direct UK aid to help developing nations reduce plastic waste, which could indicate a new direction for the UK’s and other countries’ aid programmes.

Yok Đôn National Park’s management board in the Central Highlands province of Đắk Lắk on Friday has coordinated with Buôn Đôn District police to start investigation into a large-scale deforestation inside the park.

The deforestation was brought to the notice of the board on January 26 after patrol officers of forestry protection office No 8, under the Yok Đôn National Park, came across 45cu.m of deforested land for timber, Phạm Tuấn Linh, acting director of the management board, told dantri.com.vn online newspaper.

A bright morning and the sun sends fragile rays through layers of leaves in Cuc Phuong National Park in the northern province of Ninh Binh.

The twittering of birds and chattering monkeys is a natural alarm for staff at the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre (EPRC).

Two attendants slowly walk on the path between the trees and cages of primates that need special cares. They talk about the monkeys they put geographical positioning rings on yesterday. They will release them back into the wild in few days.

Stimson Southeast Asia program director Brian Eyler recently visited Plov Tuok, a community of 800 floating homes atop of Cambodia’s Tonle Sap Lake — the largest lake in Southeast Asia and the world’s largest inland fishery. The visit was facilitated by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and Brian witnessed first-hand the progress of fish conversation zones that were established by local villagers and IUCN in 2014.

Các nước phát triển bắt đầu thấy lo bởi trong khi núi rác trong nước ngày càng cao, Trung Quốc – nhà nhập khẩu rác quen thuộc – đã nói “không” với 24 loại rác thải rắn/phế liệu kể từ tháng 9-2017.

WASHINGTON DC, Jan 25 2018 (IPS) – Indigenous Peoples and local communities are some of the best environmental stewards. Their livelihoods and cultures depend on forests, clean water and other natural resources, so they have strong incentives to sustainably manage their lands.

LandMark, the first global platform to provide maps of land held by Indigenous Peoples and local communities, last month released new carbon storage, tree cover loss, natural resource concessions, dam locations and other data layers that shed light on the environment in which these lands exist. There are 13-15 wild elephants in Nghe An

A survey found that there are 13-15 wild elephants in Nghe An, including 11-13 living in Pu Mat National Park. There are two groups of elephants, one in Khe Thoi in the national park’s core area, and another in the buffer zone.
