ĐÀ NẴNG — More than 100 amateur cyclists will partake in the Sơn Trà Mountain race on Sunday (June 25) promoting the protection of the red-shanked douc langur in the Sơn Trà Nature Reserve.

In April 2015, I was invited by the Cercle des Francophones (Francophone Association) of Hà Nội to present the film Loin du Vietnam (Far from Việt Nam) at the Hà Nội Cinémathèque. The film was made collectively  in 1967 by some of the great names of new French cinéma: Joris Ivens, William Klein, Claude Lelouch, Agnès Varda, Jean-Luc Godard, Chris Marker and Alain Resnais, in support of Việt Nam’s resistance to US aggression.

Conservationist concerned for tourism project’s impact on northern Vietnamese archipelago

Accepting a request made last week by Tuoi Tre News, Neahga Leonard, project director of the Cat Ba Langur Conservation Project in Hai Phong has shared his thoughts on how local wildlife habitat could be impacted by the Cat Ba ecotourism resort and entertainment complex in the namesake archipelago.

Aside from its transportation system, the project will also include three golf courses, an amusement park, and several components to leverage the tourism potential of local areas such as Qua Vang Cave, Lan Ha Bay, Viet Hai Village, and Cat Ong Island.

  Giả định rằng Chính phủ quyết tâm trả lại cho Khu bảo tồn thiên nhiên những gì vốn là của nó theo ranh giới được xác lập đầu tiên thì những dự án lấn chiếm Sơn Trà sẽ được xử lý như thế nào ? Đó là vấn đề nan giải không chỉ đối với chính quyền TP. Đà Nẵng mà cả đối với Chính phủ.

How many red-shanked doucs are left on Vietnam’s Son Tra peninsula?

While a recent independent study claimed that there are still over 1,300 red-shank doucs on central Vietnam’s Son Tra peninsula, primate experts believe the number to be much lower.

Red-shanked doucs are monkey-sized primates characterized by their golden face, black hands and feet, and maroon-red ‘stockings’ from their knees to their ankles.

   “Nếu có sự kết hợp hài hòa nhất giữa tự nhiên và xã hội thì sự kết hợp đó chính là Hoàng Đình Bá” (giáo sư Trần Quốc Vượng). Và khi nhắc đến Sơn Trà, không thể không nhắc đến ông thần rừng này.

Lần đầu tiên tôi đặt chân đến Sơn Trà là vào năm 1978, lúc tôi đang là bộ đội, khi chiến tranh biên giới Tây Nam nổ ra và cả nước đang chuẩn bị chống quân Trung Quốc xâm lược ở biên giới phía Bắc. Toàn đại đội của tôi được lệnh vào Sơn Trà bằng tàu quân sự qua đường biển, nói là để “truy quét tàn quân địch” nhưng thực chất có lẽ là tham gia làm tiền trạm cho cấp trên kiểm soát một vị trí chiến lược nhằm chuẩn bị bố trí phòng thủ nếu chiến tranh diễn ra trên toàn quốc. “Hồn Tổ Quốc nằm trong rừng xanh thẳm/Rừng điêu tàn là Tổ Quốc điêu linh”. Đó là câu thơ mà Hoàng Đình Bá có lần đọc tôi nghe, tôi không nhớ là thơ của ai. Đối với ông Bá, rừng là Tổ Quốc. Sơn Trà là Tổ Quốc.

Trận lụt núi lở đá trôi năm Thìn 1964 gây tang thương cho Quảng Nam, khiến 6000 người chết. “Núi lở đá trôi” không phải là hình tượng ví von mà là sự thật, núi đã lở từng mảng, đá đã trôi từng tảng lớn. Sau trận lụt lịch sử này, ông Võ Chí Công (Năm Công) khi ra Hà Nội đã báo cáo với Trung Ương và nhân dân miền Bắc. Sự kiện đó đã tác động sâu sắc đến giới khoa học. New home for rescued capitive bears in Vinh Phuc

 Vietnam Bear Sanctuary in Tam Dao National Park, Vinh Phuc, the first of its kind in the country, is opening for visitors to raise public awareness of protecting the endangered species.


Operating since April 2008, the sanctuary spans 1.2 hectares and can accommodate 200 bears.

ĐÀ NẴNG — The central city’s People’s Court rejected poacher Nguyễn Văn Lý’s appeal of a three-year conviction at a hearing on Monday.Lý was sentenced by Sơn Trà district people’s court last year for killing two Red-Shanked Doucs in the Sơn Trà Nature Reserve.
